Methods, Apparatuses And Systems Facilitating Concurrent Classification And Control Of Tunneled And Non-Tunneled Network Traffic

US Patent:
7324447, Jan 29, 2008
Filed:
Sep 30, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/260802
Inventors:
Michael Robert Morford - Saratoga CA, US
Assignee:
Packeteer, Inc. - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
H04J 1/00
US Classification:
370231, 370235
Abstract:
Methods, apparatuses and systems facilitating the concurrent classification and control of tunneled and non-tunneled data flows in a packet-based computer network environment. As discussed in more detail below, embodiments of the present invention allow for the “intra-tunnel” classification of data flows and, based on the classification, the deterministic and intelligent application of aggregate bandwidth utilization controls on data flows corresponding to a given tunnel. Embodiments of the present invention allow for the allocation of bandwidth on an application-level basis between tunneled and non-tunneled traffic, as well as between applications within a given tunnel. Other embodiments of the present invention can be configured to provide a differentiated security model for non-tunneled and tunneled traffic. In addition, embodiments of the present invention can be further configured to implement a layered security model for tunneled traffic.

Adaptive, Application-Aware Selection Of Differentiated Network Services

US Patent:
7496661, Feb 24, 2009
Filed:
Mar 29, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/812198
Inventors:
Michael Robert Morford - Saratoga CA, US
Robert E. Purvy - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Packeteer, Inc. - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
G06F 12/00
US Classification:
709224, 709225
Abstract:
Methods, apparatuses and systems that dynamically adjust the selection of differentiated network services for selected classes of traffic in response to changing network conditions or application performance levels. In one implementation, the present invention allows for a differentiated network services scheme that adapts to existing network conditions and, in one implementation, selects higher, generally more expensive classes of differentiated network service for certain data flows when the performance of selected applications degrades below a threshold level. The present invention, in one implementation, allows for bandwidth cost savings without sacrificing application performance.

Cost-Aware, Bandwidth Management Systems Adaptive To Network Conditions

US Patent:
8489720, Jul 16, 2013
Filed:
Mar 31, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/816512
Inventors:
Michael Robert Morford - Saratoga CA, US
Robert E. Purvy - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Blue Coat Systems, Inc. - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709223, 709225, 709232, 709233
Abstract:
Methods, apparatuses, and systems directed to cost-aware bandwidth management schemes that are adaptive to monitored network or application performance attributes. In one embodiment, the present invention supports bandwidth management systems that adapt to network conditions, while managing tradeoffs between bandwidth costs and application performance. One implementation of the present invention tracks bandwidth usage over an applicable billing period and applies a statistical model to allow for bursting to address increased network loading conditions that degrade network or application performance. One implementation allows for bursting at selected time periods based on computations minimizing cost relative to an applicable billing model. One implementation of the present invention is also application-aware, monitoring network application performance and increasing bandwidth allocations in response to degradations in the performance of selected applications.

System, Method, And Computer Program For Enabling A User To Access And Edit Via A Virtual Drive Objects Synchronized To A Plurality Of Synchronization Clients

US Patent:

Filed:
Aug 12, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/991446
Inventors:
- San Francisco CA, US
Michael Phillip Morford - San Ramon CA, US
Eric Wayne Wagner - San Francisco CA, US

International Classification:
H04L 29/08
H04L 29/06
G06F 3/048
Abstract:
A system, method, and computer program for enabling a user to edit and access local and remote objects via a virtual drive, including objects synchronized to a plurality of synchronization clients. A virtual drive is displayed on the user's local client device with all objects, which a user has synchronized to a synchronization server. A user is able to access and edit any object displayed in the virtual drive. In response to detecting a change in an object in the virtual drive, the object is updated on the synchronization server. All remote clients of the user or of any other users who have access to the changed folder are identified and notified of the change. In response to the change being a change to content within the folder, the content of the folder is automatically updated on any identified remote clients that have a corresponding folder.
