Reactive Surfactants

US Patent:
2022017, Jun 9, 2022
Filed:
Mar 5, 2020
Appl. No.:
17/437294
Inventors:
- Northfield IL, US
Samantha Michelle FARRIS - Chicago IL, US
Gary LUEBKE - Gurnee IL, US
E. Carolina ROJAS - Highland Park IL, US
Chris SPAULDING - Evanston IL, US
Michael R. TERRY - Gurnee IL, US
Patrick Shane WOLFE - Palatine IL, US
Julia ZAUG - Evanston IL, US
International Classification:
C07C 67/08
C07C 41/03
C07D 295/088
Abstract:
Processes for making reactive surfactants are disclosed. In one such process, a fatty epoxide, a glycidyl ether, or a combination thereof is reacted with an olefin-functional nucleophile to produce an olefin-functional hydrophobe. The olefin-functional hydrophobe is reacted with ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, butylene oxides, or a combination thereof to produce an alkoxylate. Optionally, the alkoxylate is converted to the corresponding sulfate, phosphate, or maleate. Surfactant compositions comprising the reactive surfactants made by these processes are also described. The invention includes polymerizable mixtures comprising an acrylic monomer and the surfactant compositions as well as aqueous acrylic latex emulsions and coatings produced from the emulsions. The reactive surfactants deliver stable latex emulsions with reduced tendency for surfactant migration or excessive foaming. Coatings from the emulsions have improved wet adhesion, scrub resistance, and water resistance.

Catalyst Cycle Length Prediction Using Eigen Analysis

US Patent:

Filed:
Jun 18, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/011614
Inventors:
- Des Plaines IL, US
Michael Terry - Chicago IL, US
Seth Huber - Des Plaines IL, US
Danielle Schindlbeck - Arlington Heights IL, US
International Classification:
C10G 47/36
G05B 13/04
C10G 11/00
Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for managing the operation of a plant, such as a chemical plant or a petrochemical plant or a refinery, and more particularly for enhancing system performance of a catalyzed reaction system by, among other features, detecting catalyst deactivation and cycle length. Plants may include those that provide hydrocarbon cracking or other process units. A plant may include a reactor, a heater, a catalyst bed, a separator, and other equipment. The equipment may use catalyst to treat feed products to remove compounds and produce different products. Catalysts used in the various reactors in these processes become deactivated over time. Systems and methods are disclosed for extending catalyst life and thereby improving efficiency of the plant.
