Assignee:
Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V. - Amsterdam
International Classification:
G11B 5/127
H04R 31/00
US Classification:
2960314, 2960313, 2960315, 2960316, 2960318, 360121, 360122, 360317
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a magnetic write head for perpendicular magnetic recording. The method includes forming a write pole, and then depositing a refill layer. A mask structure can be formed over the writ pole and refill layer, the mask structure being configured to define a stitched pole. An ion milling or reactive ion milling can then be performed to remove portions of the refill layer that are not protected by the mask structure. Then a magnetic material can be deposited to form a stitched write pole that defines a secondary flare point. The stitched pole can also be self aligned with an electrical lapping guide in order to accurately locate the front edge of the secondary flare point relative to the air bearing surface of the write head.

Method And System For Calibrating An Electronic Lapping Guide For A Beveled Pole In A Magnetic Recording Transducer

US Patent:
8291743, Oct 23, 2012
Filed:
May 27, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/473159
Inventors:
Changqing Shi - San Ramon CA, US
Ming Jiang - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Western Digital (Fremont), LLC - Fremont CA
International Classification:
G01N 37/00
G11B 27/36
US Classification:
73 101, 702104
Abstract:
A method and system for calibrating an electronic lapping guide (ELG) for transducer(s) having an ABS and a magnetic structure are described. The magnetic structure has a desired thickness, a bevel, and a flare point a distance from the ABS. The method and system include providing at least three ELGs. A first ELG has first and second edges first and second distances from the ABS. A second ELG has third and fourth edges third and second distances from the ABS. A third ELG has fifth and sixth edges fourth and second distances from the ABS. The first, third, and fourth distances correspond to a stripe height and an offset. The first, third, and fourth distance and/or the second distance corresponds to an intersection between the bevel and the desired thickness. The method and system also include measuring resistances of the ELGs, and calibrating the ELG(s) utilizing the offset and resistances.

Appl. No.:
12/473893
Inventors:
Changqing Shi - San Ramon CA, US
Ming Jiang - San Jose CA, US
Lijie Guan - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Western Digital (Fremont), LLC - Fremont CA
International Classification:
G11B 5/127
H04R 31/00
US Classification:
2960316, 2960312, 2960313, 2960314, 2960315, 2960318, 360121, 360122, 360317, 451 5, 451 41
Abstract:
A method for providing at least one transducer including magnetic structure and having an air-bearing surface (ABS) are described. The method includes providing a lapping electronic lapping guide (lapping ELG) and a targeting ELG. The lapping ELG and targeting ELG each are coplanar with the desired thickness of the magnetic structure and have a back edge at the distance from the ABS such that the ELG back edges are substantially aligned with the flare point. The targeting ELG has a front edge at a front edge distance from the ABS corresponding to an intersection of the bevel and the desired thickness. The method further includes lapping the transducer and terminating the lapping based on a first resistance of the lapping ELG and a second resistance of the targeting ELG.

Assignee:
HGST Netherlands B.V. - Amsterdam
International Classification:
G11B 5/147
US Classification:
36012512, 36012514
Abstract:
A magnetic write head for perpendicular magnetic data recording. The write head includes a substrate and a magnetic write pole formed on the substrate, the write pole having a trailing edge and first and second sides. A magnetic stitched pole is formed over a portion of the magnetic write pole, the stitched pole having a front edge that defines a secondary flare point. First and second non-magnetic side walls are formed at the first and second sides of the write pole. The non-magnetic side walls extend from the substrate at least to the trailing edge of the write pole in a first region near an air bearing surface and wherein the first and second non-magnetic side walls extend from the substrate to a point between the substrate and the trailing edge, allowing the stitched magnetic pole to extend partially over the sides of the write pole.

Internal Parallelism In A Parallel Discrete Event Simulation For Space Situational Awareness

US Patent:
2013012, May 16, 2013
Filed:
Jun 4, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/488377
Inventors:
David R. Jefferson - San Ramon CA, US
Alexander Pertica - Livermore CA, US
Matthew C. Brown - Seattle WA, US
Willem H. De Vries - Livermore CA, US
Benjamin J. Fasenfest - Union City CA, US
Matthew A. Horsley - Danville CA, US
Ming Jiang - Dublin CA, US
James R. Leek - Livermore CA, US
JoAnne L. Levatin - Livermore CA, US
Segei Nikolaev - Sacramento CA, US
Scot S. Olivier - Livermore CA, US
Donald William Phillion - Dublin CA, US
Harry K. Springer - Pleasanton CA, US
International Classification:
G06G 7/48
US Classification:
703 6
Abstract:
An internally parallel PDES (“IP-PDES”) system performs logical processes in parallel and further performs the internal processing of at least one logical process in parallel. Because the IP-PDES system is PDES-based, each logical process may have its processing performed in parallel with the other logical processes. The IP-PDES system allows for certain logical processes to be designated as internally parallel meaning that the logical process, referred to as an IP logical process, has its internal processing also performed in parallel. The IP-DES system allocates multiple nodes for such an IP logical process so that executable code of the IP logical process executes in parallel at the allocated nodes to simulate the occurrence of an event. Internal parallelism within a PDES may help overcome resource limitations and help speed up the overall simulation.
