Countermeasure System And Method Using Quantum Dots

US Patent:
7916065, Mar 29, 2011
Filed:
Dec 12, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/334148
Inventors:
Nathan Mintz - Redondo Beach CA, US
Mark Skidmore - Long Beach CA, US
Kalin Spariosu - Thousand Oaks CA, US
Assignee:
Raytheon Company - Waltham MA
International Classification:
G01S 7/36
US Classification:
342 13, 342 14
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a countermeasure system for protecting an asset from a missile attack includes a decoy comprising a plurality of quantum dots selected to emit radiation having a radiation emission profile similar to a profile of a radiation signature of the asset. In another embodiment, a method of simulating a radiation signature of an asset using quantum dots includes dispersing quantum dots to form a cloud of quantum dots; and exciting the quantum dots with a first radiation so that the quantum dots emit a second radiation having a profile similar to the radiation signature profile of the asset.

Space Object Deployment System And Method

US Patent:
7967257, Jun 28, 2011
Filed:
Oct 30, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/980252
Inventors:
Nathan M. Mintz - Redondo Beach CA, US
Mark R. Skidmore - Long Beach CA, US
Assignee:
Raytheon Company - Waltham MA
International Classification:
B64G 1/00
B64G 1/24
US Classification:
2441733, 244164
Abstract:
Provided is a space object deployment system. Specifically, the system in at least one embodiment, includes at least one deployable object. A deployment chamber is paired with each deployable object, each chamber including: a base opposite from the deployable object; and a spring loaded countermass coupled to the base and slidably disposed within the chamber, the deployment chamber at least partially disposed within a rotatable body transverse to the axis of rotation. At least one coupler is paired to each deployable object and adapted to detachably couple the deployable object to the body and constrain the countermass within the chamber. An associated method of use is provided as well.

Quantum Dot Based Radiation Source And Radiometric Calibrator Using The Same

US Patent:
8350223, Jan 8, 2013
Filed:
Jul 31, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/533679
Inventors:
Nathan M. Mintz - Redondo Beach CA, US
Kalin Spariosu - Thousand Oaks CA, US
Assignee:
Raytheon Company - Waltham MA
International Classification:
G01D 18/00
US Classification:
250365, 2502521, 250552
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a quantum dot based radiation source includes a housing having a wall defining a cavity therein, a plurality of quantum dots disposed on an inner surface of the wall of the housing, and a radiation excitation source in optical communication with the housing and configured to output radiation to excite the plurality of quantum dots to emit radiation in a desired wavelength range. The quantum dot based radiation source can be used in a calibration system or calibrator, for example to calibrate a detector.

8364439, Jan 29, 2013
Filed:
Jul 9, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/833292
Inventors:
Nathan M. Mintz - Redondo Beach CA, US
Michael K. Holz - Newton Centre MA, US
Brandon W. Pillans - Plano TX, US
Gregory V. Burnett - Murphy TX, US
Anthony Ross - Frisco TX, US
Assignee:
Raytheon Company - Waltham MA
International Classification:
G06F 15/00
G01M 1/22
B60R 21/16
US Classification:
702173, 701124, 280735
Abstract:
A system and computer-implemented method for detecting concealed cargo and/or concealed passengers in a vehicle includes obtaining weight distribution data for the vehicle; obtaining vehicle loading data; measuring a center of mass of the vehicle to obtain an actual center of mass position of the vehicle; and executing one or more computer program modules configured to determined a predicted center of mass position of the vehicle using the obtained vehicle loading data and the obtained weight distribution data of the vehicle; compare the actual center of mass position of the vehicle with the predicted center of mass position of the vehicle; and provide a signal if the actual center of mass position of the vehicle departs from the predicted center of mass position of the vehicle by at least a predetermined threshold, the signal being representative of concealed cargo and/or concealed passengers in the vehicle.
