Support Bar Accessory For Collapsible Bed

US Patent:
5426796, Jun 27, 1995
Filed:
Jun 8, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/255414
Inventors:
Norman C. Stanton - West Linn OR
International Classification:
A47C 1704
US Classification:
5 13
Abstract:
A removable support accessory (30) is positionable relative to one or more support bars (15, 16) of a bed frame (12) of a collapsible bed (10) to provide a substantially greater support base and more planar bed and seat support planes (23, 82). The support accessory (30) thereby reduces discomfort that would otherwise be imposed by ridges, buckets, and rolling caused by sagging cables (20, 22) and the narrow support bars (15, 16). The support accessory (30) includes a longitudinal unit (34) having substantially rigid sections (38, 40) and nonrigid sections or hinges (46) that permit support accessory (30) to be compactly folded for storage. The support accessory (30) also includes a substantially rigid central unit (36) that extends the length of the nonrigid section (46) to provide continuous support along the length of the longitudinal unit (34). Velcro strips (58, 60, 68, and 70) are employed to secure the central unit (36) to the longitudinal unit (34 ), and the longitudinal unit (34) to the bed frame (12). The support accessory (30) can be employed when the collapsible bed (10) is extended in a bed-forming position (21) or collapsed in a sofa-forming position (80).

US Patent:
4490866, Jan 1, 1985
Filed:
Dec 6, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/447240

The mattress cover to be mounted typically has top, bottom, and skirt portions with a closable opening adjacent the skirt portion. The system includes a web mounted to and extending along a portion of the side periphery of the mattress core, and a freely positionable fastener having an enlarged head and a pointed extension member for piercing the mattress cover skirt portion and the web to fix the position of the mattress cover with respect to the web and the mattress core.

Apparatus To Attach A Flexible Covering To A Semi-Rigid Member

US Patent:
5129569, Jul 14, 1992
Filed:
Dec 21, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/455513
Inventors:
Norman C. Stanton - West Linn OR
International Classification:
B27F 726
B27F 1713
US Classification:
227 43
Abstract:
This invention discloses an apparatus to staple a fabric covering to the framework of a box spring. A table having low friction rollers on the top surface supports a box spring in an inverted position. The box spring resides inside a fabric covering which extends about the box spring and has an upstanding flap of fabric. A plurality of drive wheels are mounted above the table to engage the box spring and propel the box spring through the apparatus. A pair of subframes are located above the box spring to position the box spring and to guide the box spring through the apparatus. Guides attached to each subframe center the box spring in the apparatus and simultaneously fold the upstanding flap of fabric down upon the box spring. A staple gun is attached to each subframe to drive staples through the fabric covering into the box spring, thus attaching the fabric to the box spring.

Apparatus To Attach A Flexible Member

US Patent:
5058794, Oct 22, 1991
Filed:
May 14, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/523324
Inventors:
Norman C. Stanton - Tualatin OR
International Classification:
B27F 702
US Classification:
227 7
Abstract:
The present invention is an apparatus to attach a continuous sheet of flexible material, such as fabric, to pairs of elongated rigid members such as wooden slats. The flexible member is attached on each side to one of the pairs of rigid members. A table supports the apparatus and has recessed guides longitudinally located on each side of the table. A magazine holder overlays each of the guides and each magazine holds a plurality of elongated rigid members in an aligned, vertically stacked, relationship. A pair of slides advances a pair of the rigid members, one along each guide to a first drive mechanism. The first drive mechanism advances each of the pair of elongated rigid members at a constant linear speed into an attachment zone. Flexible material is also guided into the attachment zone to lay atop each of the elongated rigid members. A pair of staplers, one overlaying each guide drives staples through the flexible material into the rigid members to attach the flexible material to each of the elongated rigid members.
