Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G08B 5/22
G09F 9/33
US Classification:
34081545, 2502081, 472 61, 428919
Abstract:
The present disclosure is a method for modifying a color of a device. Method may include receiving a signal, identifying a color scheme of an immediate area, changing a color of a device to substantially conform to the immediate color scheme; and changing a color of the device to a substantial color other than the immediate color scheme.

Distance Determination And Virtual Environment Creation Using Circle Of Confusion

US Patent:
7551266, Jun 23, 2009
Filed:
Sep 24, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/859974
Inventors:
Ori Pomerantz - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G01C 3/08
US Classification:
356 403, 356 401, 356 41, 356 501
Abstract:
A data processing system, computer implemented method, and computer program product code determines distances to an object. Computer generated environments can be calculated therefrom. A light source is focused on an object at an unknown distance from an imaging device, creating a point-of-light. The imaging device, focused on a focal plane at a second location, records an out-of-focus image of the point-of-light at the first distance. From the out-of-focus image, the diameter of a circle of confusion for the point-of-light is identified. The distance between the object and the imaging device is then calculated from the circle of confusion.

Method For Automatic Skill-Gap Evaluation

US Patent:
7552199, Jun 23, 2009
Filed:
Sep 22, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/232769
Inventors:
Ori Pomerantz - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
G06F 15/173
G09B 19/00
G09B 5/00
US Classification:
709219, 709207, 709230, 709238, 434118, 434307 R
Abstract:
A method for automatic user skill-gap evaluation using a proxy server or a proxy application. The proxy server or application receives a user input from a user and analyzes the user input to determine whether the user input falls below an acceptable user skill threshold level. The user input consists of user activity within an application and the user activity is recorded in a user action log. To determine whether the user input falls below the acceptable user skill threshold level, the proxy server or application compares the user activity recorded in the user action log with user skill-gap behavior patterns created by a subject matter expert. In response to determining that the user activity recorded in the user action log falls below the acceptable user skill threshold level, the proxy server or application sends a specific training module to the user based on an identified user skill-gap.

Auto Shutoff For Portable Audio Devices

US Patent:
7561698, Jul 14, 2009
Filed:
Aug 14, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/191617
Inventors:
Ori Pomerantz - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
H04R 29/00
US Classification:
381 58, 381 56, 381123
Abstract:
A system for automatically shutting of a portable audio player is disclosed. A portable audio player includes a microphone, an audio detector and a processor. The portable audio player may be connected to external speakers for outputting an audio signal played by the portable audio player. The microphone and audio detector may monitor audio signal output from the external speakers check if the external speakers cease outputting an audio signal. A processor may compare an audio signal value generated by the audio detector based on the audio signal output of the external speakers. When the audio signal value drops below a threshold value, a switch on the portable audio player is activated to power off the portable audio player.

Dynamic Determination Of Master Servers For Branches In Distributed Directories

US Patent:
7562144, Jul 14, 2009
Filed:
Sep 6, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/470502
Inventors:
David S. Freeman - Austin TX, US
Ori Pomerantz - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
US Classification:
709226, 709224, 709220, 709221
Abstract:
Dynamically modifying the allocation of branches of a directory information tree to directory servers, based on the real time volume of requests processed for a specific branch at a particular directory server. In particular, a Master Server (MS) utility calculates and stores branch access numbers for each server in the form of decaying averages. The MS utility maintains these access numbers within a database table. The MS utility determines if branches are transferred to a new master server by evaluating these access numbers within pre-set transfer criteria, which include a set of Boolean conditions. That is, transferring a branch to a new master server is dependent on the branch access numbers of the prospective master server candidate satisfying a set of Boolean conditions. Once the MS utility determines that these Boolean conditions are satisfied, the MS utility transfers the branch to that new master server.

Finding And Packing Travel Articles

US Patent:
7852218, Dec 14, 2010
Filed:
Mar 25, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/054768
Inventors:
Franklin C. Breslau - Teaneck NJ, US
David B. Kumhyr - Austin TX, US
Ori Pomerantz - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G08B 13/14
US Classification:
3405721, 340 592, 705 29
Abstract:
A system and method for locating one or more travel articles for packing, out of a plurality of travel articles. A transponder having a unique locator tag is disposed on each travel article that can be potentially selected for packing. A user or computer selects one or more travel articles for packing using an article tracking unit. Article tracking unit communicates a ping signal to a transponder that is associated with a selected travel article for packing. Upon receipt of the ping signal, a transponder controller activates an indicator, such as an aural or visual cue. The activated indicator assists a user in locating the travel article that is associated with the activated indicator. Once the selected travel article for packing is located and packed in a travel container, the indicator is deactivated.

System And Method For Utilizing Audit Information For Challenge/Response During A Password Reset Process

US Patent:
7861287, Dec 28, 2010
Filed:
May 17, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/435524
Inventors:
Ori Pomerantz - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
H04L 9/32
G06F 21/00
US Classification:
726 6, 726 7, 726 18, 726 19, 713182
Abstract:
A system, method, and computer usable medium for utilizing audit information for challenge/response during a password reset process. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a client tracker compiles a log of user actions while a user accesses an account on a data processing system. In response to a user password reset request, the client tracker selects at least one user action from the log of user actions, forms a challenge question based on the selected user action, and in response to an acceptable response to the challenge question, resetting a password associated with the account.
