Entering the competition as the 24th seed and playing before a pro-Brazilian crowd, Binstock and Schacter, the latter making his Olympic debut, kept pace with Cerutti and Oscar Schmidt in the opening set.
What might have been the difference in that set came when Binstock and Schacter trailed 14-13 before Cerutti and Oscar Schmidt gained some breathing room by scoring the next three points.
With Cerutti and Oscar Schmidt appearing frustrated by a couple of non-calls, Binstock and Schachter took advantage to take their first lead at 20-19 on a block by Binstock.
The biggest point came with the score tied at 20-20 and Binstock and Schachter appearing to score the next point to regain the upper hand, but the referee ruled Binstocks upper arm touched the net and thus awarded the go-ahead point to Cerutti and Oscar Schmidt.
