Appl. No.:
09/899448
Inventors:
Patrick J. Treacy - Kinnelon NJ, US
Damon Servidio - Montville NJ, US
Lawrence R. Menendez - Marina Del Rey CA, US
Kathleen N. Burns - Edgewater NJ, US

Abstract:
A pelvic prosthesis includes a ball socket and two substantially parallel fanned wings extending upward from the socket. A stabilizing hump is located directly above the socket and extends between and substantially perpendicular to the fanned wings. Each wing is provided with at least two pin receiving holes such that pins may be inserted through the fanned wing. The holes are preferably arranged so that the pins, when inserted, are not parallel. The anterior fanned wing is approximately twice as tall as the posterior fanned wing. Methods and tools for implanting the prosthesis are also disclosed.

Slotted Patella Resection Guide And Stylus

US Patent:
5542947, Aug 6, 1996
Filed:
May 12, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/440290
Inventors:
Patrick J. Treacy - Towaco NJ
Assignee:
Huwmedica Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
A61B 1756
US Classification:
606 88
Abstract:
A slotted patella resection guide and stylus used in the preparation of the human patella to accept a patella prosthesis in total knee arthroplasty. The guide includes jaw members for gripping bone, the jaw members including a plurality of calibrated and marked steps (slots) located at a different fixed predetermined height above the desired resection level. Each slot accepts the stylus which may be at least temporarily secured therein. After determining the amount of bone to resect, the stylus is temporarily secured in the appropriate slot (marked as being calibrated to yield the amount of resection desired); and the guide is then clamped onto the patella at the location indicated by the guide/stylus combination, with the stylus resting on the patella in the area where its thickness was measured to establish the depth of cut. After the guide is clamped in position, a sagittal saw is inserted therein to actually perform the resection. During resection, the stylus may be removed from the guide to enhance visibility.

Patella Milling Instrument

US Patent:
5716362, Feb 10, 1998
Filed:
Feb 20, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/604048
Inventors:
Patrick J. Treacy - Towaco NJ
Assignee:
Howmedica Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
A61B 1756
US Classification:
606 87
Abstract:
A patella milling instrument has a planar base with a fixed patellar clamping element formed thereon. A movable patellar milling element is slidably mounted on the base and is movable towards and away from the fixed clamping element. A drive element is operable between the base and the movable element for moving the movable clamping element. The drive element is actuated by a drive mechanism fixed in a handle of the device found at one end thereof and connected to a drive element which is also in the form of a ratchet element. A movable end mill type cutting element is mounted on a support arm supported by the base. The support arm is capable of movement in directions parallel to the plane of the base and is adjustable in a direction perpendicular to the base. The end mill has a drive shaft rotatably mounted in a bushing in an end of the support arm which drive shaft is rotatable by a power tool and capable of movement in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the base.
