US Patent:
7030579, Apr 18, 2006
Filed:
May 31, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/151190
Inventors:
John J. Schmitz - Saint Clair Shores MI, US
Paul A. Petrovich - Fowlerville MI, US
A. David Stormer - Clinton Twp. MI, US
Robert G. Washburn - Sterling Heights MI, US
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Army - Washington DC
International Classification:
H02P 1/00
US Classification:
318139, 318587, 318591, 89 4003, 89 4102
Abstract:
A mechanism for retrofitting a turret that has a manual rotation system with a motorized turret rotation system includes a gear box mechanically coupled to the turret, an electrically powered prime mover unit mechanically coupled to the gear box, a user operated control device electrically coupled to the prime mover unit, and an electrical power supply electrically coupled to the prime mover unit. The turret rotates relative to a body structure. The gear box and the prime mover unit are mounted to the body structure. The control device and the electrical power supply are positioned on the turret. The power supply provides electrical power to the prime mover. The control device presents a control signal to the prime mover when the user actuates the control device, and the turret rotates in response to the control signal.

Conformable Self-Healing Ballistic Armor

US Patent:
7966923, Jun 28, 2011
Filed:
Jun 28, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/879519
Inventors:
George A. Daniels - Waterford MI, US
Paul A. Petrovich - Fowlerville MI, US
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Army - Washington DC
International Classification:
F41H 7/00
US Classification:
89 3602, 89917
Abstract:
A conformable self-healing ballistic armor protective structure has a shell formed of a laminated cloth material having outer and inner lamellae. The outer lamella of the laminated material is a ballistic cloth and the inner lamella is a soft, conformable self-healing, rubber compound. The shell is filled preferably with multiplicity of ceramic particles disposed in a fluid.

Petalling Projectile

US Patent:
5097768, Mar 24, 1992
Filed:
Mar 11, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/668290
Inventors:
Paul A. Petrovich - Fowlerville MI
International Classification:
F42B 1234
US Classification:
102510
Abstract:
The invention is a firearms projectile having an improved petalling action upon impacting a target. The projectile includes a slug whose head is separated into petalling elements by fins of a softer material than that of the slug, the head defining a central recess from which the fins radiate. The slug has a core therein which is forwardly and rearwardly tapered and is configured to assist the outward movement of the petalling elements after the projectile impacts. The cylindrical walls of the projectile provide a limited, controlled degree of longitudinal support to the petalling elements and the projectile includes means to force the cylindrical walls outward and away from the petalling elements once impact begins.

Nonmetallic Gun Barrel

US Patent:
5183958, Feb 2, 1993
Filed:
Jun 22, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/901647
Inventors:
Paul A. Petrovich - Fowlerville MI
International Classification:
F41A 2104
F41A 2118
US Classification:
89 16
Abstract:
The invention is a nonmetallic gun barrel having a longitudinally rigid tubular exterior capable of radial elastic deformation upon passage of a projectile therethrough. Liner segments fixed at the inner diameter of the barrel exterior are abutted end to end and form spiraled rifling structures comprised of shallow channels and ridges between the channels. Radial gaps between sides of the liners can be partly filled by radial projections of elastomeric material of the barrel exterior. The radial projections expand inwardly to seal against a projectile bearing against the inner periphery of the barrel as the projectile is fired from the barrel.

Diesel Engine Starting Controller And Method

US Patent:
6164258, Dec 26, 2000
Filed:
Jun 18, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/336102
Inventors:
Paul A. Petrovich - Fowlerville MI
John J. Schmitz - St Clair Shores MI
A. David Stormer - Clinton Township MI
Jack G. Rodgers - Roseville MI
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Army - Washington DC
International Classification:
F02B 908
F02N 1700
US Classification:
1231796
Abstract:
A starting controller for a diesel engine. The controller has a microprocor that will provide a current to the glow plugs until they are heated to the desired operating temperature and will then distribute sequential pulses to the individual plugs until the engine reaches the desired operating temperature. The system can have a latching circuit that will prevent the preglow cycle from being reinitiated until the glow plugs have been allowed to cool to a level where reinitiation will not represent a substantial degrading effect on the glow plugs.

Spiral Recoil Absorber

US Patent:
5343649, Sep 6, 1994
Filed:
Sep 9, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/118348
Inventors:
Paul A. Petrovich - Fowlerville MI
International Classification:
F41A 2514
F41A 2518
US Classification:
42 106
Abstract:
A specialized recoil absorber mounted to a gun dampens and absorbs the recoil force of a gun during the firing thereof. The recoil absorber includes a closed, fluid filled cylinder having a first end and a second end. A piston closely fits within the cylinder and slides therein along the cylinders longitudinal axis and a spring is compressed between the piston and the first end. The cylinder defines channels at an outer diametrical surface thereof, the channels having a helical twist centered on the longitudinal axis, whereby the piston rotates as it translates.
