Scalloped Wing Leading Edge

US Patent:
6431498, Aug 13, 2002
Filed:
Jun 30, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/607872
Inventors:
Philip Watts - Long Beach CA, 90815
Frank E. Fish - Downington PA, 19335
International Classification:
B64C 328
US Classification:
244198, 244200
Abstract:
An apparatus to modify a wing to provide increased lift over drag ratios compared to similar wings with straight leading edges. For wings extending in a lateral direction, and defining a longitudinal upstream direction, the apparatus forms a laterally extending leading edge facing in the upstream direction. The apparatus forms a plurality of protrusions spaced laterally along the leading edge, the protrusions creating a smoothly varying, alternately forward-and-aft sweep along the leading edge relative to the upstream flow direction along the leading edge.

Tsunami Hazard Assessment System

US Patent:
2005023, Oct 20, 2005
Filed:
Mar 31, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/096709
Inventors:
Philip Watts - Long Beach CA, US
International Classification:
G01W001/00
US Classification:
702003000, 702002000
Abstract:
A method of tsunami hazard assessment, including the steps of establishing a tsunami scenario, and compiling a plurality of geographic information layers regarding a particular tsunami hazard at a geographic location for a given target. Each layer pertains to target bodies characterized by a different characteristic set of one or more target characteristics. Each layer provides data representing the geographic area over which the hazard will occur to any present target bodies characterized by the characteristic set to which the layer pertains.

Tissue Transfer Cannula And Connectors

US Patent:
2006020, Sep 7, 2006
Filed:
Feb 15, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/356318
Inventors:
Philip Watts - Long Beach CA, US
Brian Pockett - San Marcos CA, US
David Koos - San Diego CA, US
International Classification:
A61M 5/31
US Classification:
604240000
Abstract:
A cannula including a shaft an outer layer and an inner layer, the inner layer being composed of a material that will cause the inner layer to be destroyed when autoclaved. A pre-applied layer of lubricant covers the inner and outer surfaces of the shaft. A slide is slidingly received within the shaft. An adaptor on the cannula includes a fitting forming a tapered bore sized to allow an outer end of a receptacle post to compressively contact the end of the shaft. An elastic sealing device is configured to be compressed between the fitting and the receptacle when the receptacle post is received within the tapered bore. This sealing device further seals the connection, protecting the tissue from contamination.

Syringe Clip

US Patent:
2007004, Mar 1, 2007
Filed:
Jul 3, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/480762
Inventors:
Philip Watts - Long Beach CA, US
Brian Pockett - San Marcos CA, US
David Koos - San Diego CA, US
John Griecci - Redondo Beach CA, US
International Classification:
A61M 5/00
US Classification:
604187000
Abstract:
A clip having a compression surface and a clamping mechanism to compress an outer surface of a syringe barrel around a sealing portion. The clamping mechanism can comprise a rigid c-shape body, a flexible body that latches to clamp, or a flexible strap. The clip can alternatively clamp on to two flanges of a plunger, and have a protrusion that locks onto a syringe barrel flange.

Cannula Handle And Storage System

US Patent:
2007009, Apr 26, 2007
Filed:
Sep 25, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/527013
Inventors:
David Koos - San Diego CA, US
Brian Pockett - San Marcos CA, US
Philip Watts - Long Beach CA, US
International Classification:
A61M 1/00
A61M 5/178
US Classification:
604164010, 604035000, 604164070
Abstract:
A cannula, handle and suction device to provide for the withdrawal of fluids from a body. A handle shaft has a receptacle connects to a cannula tapered bore leading to an end of a cannula shaft. The receptacle has a post that is conformingly received by the tapered bore such that an end of the post abuts the end of the cannula shaft. The cannula shaft has lubrication over its exterior. The handle shaft has an inner layer composed of a material that is destroyed when autoclaved, and a layer of lubricant covering an inner surface of the shaft. The handle shaft forms a chamber that may be sealed with a closure, and the chamber may opens into the channel such that the chamber acts as a Helmholtz resonator. The handle has a removable grip with a diameter of at least one inch and a circumferential flange.

Hazard Assessment System

US Patent:
2008002, Jan 31, 2008
Filed:
Sep 12, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/225879
Inventors:
Philip Watts - Long Beach CA, US
International Classification:
G06G 7/48
US Classification:
703 5
Abstract:
A method of hazard assessment for a given geographic scenario that establishes a Hazard Assessment Model (HAM) for the geographic scenario, including a plurality of geologic models that predict events for the geologic scenario. The method establishes a set of the parameters necessary for using the geologic models to predict their respective events, wherein the parameters are defined by a combination of one or more established probabilities, established initial conditions, and established parameters defining change over time. It analyzes the HAM in time intervals over a time period, wherein at each time interval at least one of the geologic models is selected to establish an event state, and wherein each of the geologic models is selected in more than one of the time intervals, thus accumulating data on the established event states and their related parameters over the time period covered in the step of analyzing the HAM.

Wind Power Generation System

US Patent:
2011021, Sep 1, 2011
Filed:
Feb 2, 2011
Appl. No.:
12/931538
Inventors:
Philip Watts - Redondo Beach CA, US
James V. Eats - Long Beach CA, US
International Classification:
F01D 5/14
US Classification:
416223 R
Abstract:
A wind turbine blade forming a root at an inner end, a tip at an outer end, a plurality of power sections intermediate the root and the tip, and a plurality of aerodynamic section dividers located intermediate each of the other sections. The aerodynamic section dividers are configured to aerodynamically isolate their adjoining sections to limit the lateral flow of air between them while in use on the wind turbine. The blade has a low aspect ratio and is operated at a high advance rate. The aerodynamic section dividers are close enough together to soften the stall characteristics of the blade, and thus the blade can be operated at high angles of attack.
