Network Operations Control In Packet Data Networks

US Patent:
7633865, Dec 15, 2009
Filed:
Jan 19, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/655613
Inventors:
Daniel Matthew Andrews - New Providence NJ, US
Piyush Gupta - Piscataway NJ, US
Iraj Saniee - New Providence NJ, US
Aleksandr Stolyar - Basking Ridge NJ, US
Assignee:
Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
H04L 12/56
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
370230, 370235, 370413, 709232
Abstract:
A technique for controlling a packet data network to maintain network stability and efficiently utilize network resources through mechanisms involving per-destination queues and urgency weights for medium access control. The technique jointly controls congestion, scheduling, and contention resolution on hop-by-hop basis, such that the length of queues of packets at a node does not become arbitrarily large. In one embodiment, queue lengths and urgency weights may be transmitted and received via medium access control messages.

Method And Apparatus For Channel Prediction In Wireless Networks

US Patent:
2005022, Oct 13, 2005
Filed:
Apr 12, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/822511
Inventors:
Simon Borst - Convent Station NJ, US
Piyush Gupta - Piscataway NJ, US
Philip Whiting - New Providence NJ, US
Assignee:
Lucent Technologies, Inc. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
H04Q007/20
US Classification:
455450000
Abstract:
Techniques and systems for channel prediction in wireless networks. A base station receives a succession of channel indicators from each of a plurality of mobile units, each channel indicator being received from each mobile unit once per timeslot. A channel predictor uses the channel indicators to generate a channel condition prediction for each mobile unit, the channel condition prediction being based on a balanced estimate using the most recent channel condition indicator and the mean of the succession of channel indicators. A weight is computed based on a gradient of the succession channel indicator values and used to assign relative emphasis to the most recent channel condition indicator and the mean channel condition indicator in order to give greater emphasis to the most recent indicator during slowly changing conditions and greater emphasis to the mean indicator during rapidly changing conditions.

Distributed Computation Of Linear Combinations In A Network

US Patent:
2015020, Jul 16, 2015
Filed:
Jan 10, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/152518
Inventors:
- Murray Hill NJ, US
Piyush Gupta - Murray Hill NJ, US
Assignee:
ALCATEL-LUCENT USA INC. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
H04L 29/08
Abstract:
A first source node transmits a first transmission vector formed by multiplying a vector of input values and an inverse of a transfer matrix that relates vectors transmitted from the first source node via a plurality of intermediate nodes to vectors received at a plurality of destination nodes. Each of the intermediate nodes transmits a vector formed by a linear operation performed on received vectors. The linear operation may be determined based on linear combinations of the first transmission vector and one or more second transmission vectors transmitted by second source nodes. The linear combinations are to be received at the destination nodes. The linear operation is chosen so that propagation of the first transmission vector through the intermediate nodes produces, at the destination nodes, predetermined linear combinations of the first transmission vector and one or more second transmission vectors transmitted by one or more second source nodes.

Systems And Methods For Beaconing And Management In Bandwidth Adaptive Wireless Networks

US Patent:
2014015, Jun 5, 2014
Filed:
Mar 23, 2012
Appl. No.:
14/008706
Inventors:
Vikram Srinivasan - Bangalore, IN
Supratim Deb - Murray Hill NJ, US
Kanthi C N - Bangalore, IN
Piyush Gupta - Murray Hill NJ, US
Assignee:
ALCATEL LUCENT - Paris
International Classification:
H04W 28/20
US Classification:
370329
Abstract:
Systems and methods for beaconing and management in bandwidth adaptive wireless networks are disclosed. The present invention relates to bandwidth allocation for access points and, more particularly, to bandwidth allocation for access points in wireless networks. The method employs mechanisms for beaconing and management to associate clients with Access Point (AP). The beaconing mechanism allows the client to discover part of the spectrum over which an AP operates efficiently. Periodic beacon messages are sent by AP to the client over the bandwidth of operation of the channel. The client then sends a client association request and gets associated with the AP. Further, critical information is conveyed to the AP in the beacon message. The AP further allocates the client to one of its radios of operation. The system is configured to handle disruptions and switching the AP to different parts of the spectrum during such disruptions.
