Method And Apparatus For Determing When To Begin Communication Resource Acquisition

US Patent:
2006013, Jun 22, 2006
Filed:
Dec 17, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/015607
Inventors:
John Harris - Chicago IL, US
Pranavkumar Joshi - Palatine IL, US
International Classification:
H04J 3/00
US Classification:
370336000, 370498000
Abstract:
Various embodiments are described to address the need for an apparatus and method for communication resource acquisition that reduces the delay in acquiring resources without unduly wasting resources. In general, the described embodiments attempt to obtain desired resources in a just-in-time manner by using reasonably available information to characterize future packet transfers and calculate when resource acquisition should begin. The various embodiments involve calculating when to begin communication resource acquisition by considering a transfer-complete time, a ready-for-next-transfer time, an anticipated start time, and/or an anticipated acquisition time. In wireless communication systems (), either the RAN () or the remote units () may be determining when to begin communication resource acquisition involving their air interface (). Moreover, the desired resources may include, for example, uplink channels, downlink channels, supplemental channels, data-rate increases for certain channels, and/or FER decreases for certain channels.

Method And System For Streamlined Call Setup

US Patent:
2007021, Sep 13, 2007
Filed:
Mar 10, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/373751
Inventors:
Ronald Crocker - St. Charles IL, US
John Harris - Chicago IL, US
Pranavkumar Joshi - Schaumburg IL, US
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
US Classification:
370431000, 370392000, 370395520
Abstract:
A method () and communication device () capable of streamlining call setups to a wireless mobile unit () may include a transceiver () and a controller (). In various embodiments of the invention, the controller detects () a modified request for a communication resource, optionally monitors () a communication system loading parameter, and sends (or ) an assignment for a larger than anticipated allocation of the communication resource upon detecting the modified request or when the system loading parameter falls below a predetermined threshold. The controller may also receive () via the larger than anticipated allocation of the communication resource both an anticipated initial data transmission and an initial user data transmission in a first data transmission from the mobile wireless unit.

Method And System For Providing Service In A Network

US Patent:
2008010, May 1, 2008
Filed:
Oct 31, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/554613
