Filed:
Sep 17, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/953777
Inventors:
Rajesh Bhalla - Westmont IL, US
Gopal K Dommety - Santa Clara CA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
H04Q 7/00
US Classification:
370331, 455436, 455439
Abstract:
A system, a method, and software for communicating packet data are disclosed. A call is communicated from a mobile device through a first base station controller and a first packet data serving node. The call is transferred from the first base station controller to a second base station controller in communication with a second packet data serving node. The call is then communicated through a tunnel established between the first packet data serving node and the second packet data serving node.

Optimization Of Point-To-Point Sessions

US Patent:
7411927, Aug 12, 2008
Filed:
Feb 5, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/072055
Inventors:
Rajesh Bhalla - Westmont IL, US
Arghya T. Mukherjee - Mountain View CA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
H04Q 7/00
H04Q 7/24
H04L 12/66
US Classification:
370331, 370338, 370352
Abstract:
According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method of optimizing point-to-point sessions is disclosed. A registration request is received from a mobile node. The mobile node communicates with a current packet controller function serviced by a packet data serving node. Whether the registration request comprises a previous access network identifier is determined. The previous access network identifier identifies a previous packet controller function. Whether the mobile node is serviced by a mobile Internet Protocol is determined. Next, whether the mobile node communicated with a previous packet controller function serviced by the packet data serving node is determined. The method concludes by deciding whether to negotiate a point-to-point session for the mobile node in response to on the determinations.

Selecting A Communications Protocol

US Patent:
7613811, Nov 3, 2009
Filed:
Sep 17, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/954320
Inventors:
Rajesh Bhalla - Westmont IL, US
Hsia R. Yu - Milpitas CA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709227, 709228, 709245, 370331, 455436
Abstract:
According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method, a logic, and systems for selecting a communications protocol are disclosed. An initial request having a static Internet Protocol address is received from a mobile node, and a dynamic address is assigned to the mobile node. A data packet is received from the mobile node, and whether the data packet uses the dynamic address or has a mobile Internet Protocol request is determined. If the data packet has the mobile Internet Protocol request, the data packet is processed using a mobile Internet Protocol process. Alternatively, if the data packet uses the dynamic address, the data packet is processed using a simple Internet Protocol process.

Method And System For Providing Network Services

US Patent:
8041819, Oct 18, 2011
Filed:
Mar 19, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/104879
Inventors:
Rajesh Bhalla - Westmont IL, US
Arghya T. Mukherjee - Mountain View CA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709227, 709245, 709202
Abstract:
A method for providing network services includes receiving a mobile station identifier (MSID) from a mobile node at a packet data serving node. The packet data serving node is operable to communicate with the mobile node. The method includes receiving a registration request (RRQ) from the mobile node and appending the MSID to the RRQ. The method includes forwarding the RRQ to a home agent. The home agent is operable to communicate with the packet data serving node. The method also includes receiving an Internet Protocol (IP) address from the home agent. The IP address corresponds to the MSID. The MSID may be included in a normal vendor specific extension (NVSE) constructed by the packet data serving node. Appending the MSID to the RRQ may comprise appending the NVSE to the RRQ.

Enhanced Timer Based Registration Method For Wireless Communication Networks

US Patent:
8224323, Jul 17, 2012
Filed:
May 9, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/118610
Inventors:
YuanFang Yu - GuangDong, CN
Xiaowu Zhao - GuangDong, CN
Rajesh Bhalla - Westmont IL, US
Yonggang Fang - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
ZTE (USA) Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
H04W 4/00
US Classification:
4554351, 4554561, 4554562, 4554563, 4554352, 4554353, 370331, 370332
Abstract:
Techniques and systems that provide timer based registration for efficiently registering access terminals with a wireless network are described. A timer is provided for an access terminal to register with the network. When the timer expires, the access terminal performs a timer based registration process if a currently serving base station is not the same as a base station that serves the access terminal when the access terminal completes the last timer based registration process, and avoids performing another timer based registration process if the currently serving base station is the same as a base station that serves the access terminal when the access terminal completes the last timer based registration process. The access terminal resets the timer if the currently serving base station is the same as a base station that served the access terminal when the access terminal completes the last timer based registration process.

Internetworking Techniques For Transferring Packets Between Source And Target Serving Gateways

US Patent:
8243686, Aug 14, 2012
Filed:
Oct 21, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/603462
Inventors:
Rajesh Bhalla - Gahanna OH, US
Yonggang Fang - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
ZTE (USA) Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
H04W 4/00
US Classification:
370331
Abstract:
Techniques for wireless communications include operating first and second access networks to provide wireless service to wireless devices. The first and second access networks are associated with respective first and second gateways. The first gateway is operated to (1) receive a request for transferring wireless service of a wireless device from the second access network to the first access network and (2) send a message that includes key information to the second gateway based on the request. The second gateway is operated to (1) send session context information to the first gateway in response to the message and (2) forward a data packet associated with the wireless device to the first gateway. The forwarded data packet includes a packet data network identifier (PDN-ID) to identify a packet data network (PDN) associated with a downlink data packet.
