International Classification:
H04L 12/56
G01R 31/08
US Classification:
370241, 37039542
Abstract:
Various aspects of apparatuses and methods for enabling a subscriber premise network interface device (NID) to facilitate communication services including digitally derived voice services to be facilitated between a central office and a subscriber premise are disclosed herein. In accordance with one embodiment of the disclosures herein, such a method includes facilitating a downstream DSL voice channel transmission process at a subscriber premise Network Interface Device (NID) and facilitating an upstream DSL voice channel transmission process at the subscriber premise NID. The downstream DSL voice channel transmission process facilitates converting a voice component of a downstream DSL data stream to a corresponding downstream analog voice signal. The upstream DSL voice channel transmission process facilitates converting an upstream analog voice signal to an upstream voice component of an upstream DSL data stream.

Ac Coupling-Dc Blocking Surge Protection Module With Dc Blocking Bypass Functionality

US Patent:
7518847, Apr 14, 2009
Filed:
Apr 1, 2003
Appl. No.:

Inventors:
Randall B. Sharpe - Chapel Hill NC, US
Assignee:
Alcatel Lucent - Paris
International Classification:
H01H 73/00
US Classification:
361116
Abstract:
One embodiment of the disclosures made herein is a network equipment protection module configured for being removably mounted on a network equipment protector block. In accordance with such a network equipment protection module, the network equipment protection module includes surge protection circuitry configured for providing surge protection functionality, AC coupling-DC blocking circuitry configured for providing AC coupling-DC blocking functionality and DC blocking circuitry configured for providing DC blocking functionality. The DC blocking circuitry enables the DC blocking functionality to be selectively activated and deactivated. In this manner, such a network equipment protection module enables the combination of surge protection, DSL signal transmission, full metallic loop testing (MLT) and bridging of a DC voltage to be facilitated in association with a twisted pair transmission line.

Rapid Media Channel Changing Mechanism And Access Network Node Comprising Same

US Patent:
7804831, Sep 28, 2010
Filed:
Dec 19, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/311046
Inventors:
Randall B. Sharpe - Chapel Hill NC, US
Ben Crosby - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Alcatel Lucent - Paris
International Classification:
H04L 12/54
H04L 12/28
H04J 3/26
US Classification:
370390, 370428, 370432
Abstract:
A method is provided for enabling rapid media stream channel changes in conjunction with increasing network resource utilization efficiency. A media stream is multicast for reception by a plurality of requesting decoders. The media stream includes packets containing groups of pictures (GOPs), which are stored in a buffer of an access node. At least a portion of the packets are unicast from the access node for reception by a new requesting decoder in response to receiving from the new requesting decoder a request for reception designating a media stream identifier corresponding to the media stream. Thereafter, the media stream is multicast to the new decoder after bringing packet transmission of the unicast media stream into alignment with packet transmission of the multicast media stream.

System, Method, And Computer Readable Medium Rapid Channel Change

US Patent:
8281351, Oct 2, 2012
Filed:
Dec 22, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/315551
Inventors:
Randall B. Sharpe - Chapel Hill NC, US
Assignee:
Alcatel Lucent - Paris
International Classification:
H04N 7/173
US Classification:
725 94, 725116
Abstract:
A system, method and computer readable medium operable to move a video delay from a network video queue to a decoder video queue by discarding at least one video frame in a network video queue, thus moving video frames deeper in the queue forward in time. As such, rapid channel changing is provided without continuous unicasting, or temporarily transmitting at faster than the nominal rate, thereby alleviating strain on the network.

Error Recovery Mechanism And Network Element Comprising Same

US Patent:
2006022, Oct 5, 2006
Filed:
Nov 18, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/282355
Inventors:
Randall Sharpe - Chapel Hill NC, US
Ben Crosby - San Jose CA, US
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709227000
Abstract:
A method is provided for facilitating error recovery of media stream packets in an access node. The method comprises storing a plurality of data transmission units of a media stream in a buffer of an access node, receiving a request for retransmission of at least one designated data transmission unit for reception by a designated subscriber media decoder apparatus, accessing the at least one designated data transmission unit within the buffer in response to receiving the request for retransmission and transmitting the at least one designated data transmission unit from the access node for reception by the designated subscriber media decoder apparatus in response to successfully accessing the at least one designated data transmission unit.
