Abstract:
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is directed to a method for performing quality function deployment for a system having a plurality of levels. The method includes obtaining a plurality of first level critical to quality parameters and obtaining a plurality of first level key control parameters. A first level quality matrix is generated identifying an effect at least one first level key control parameter has on at least one first level critical to quality parameter. The first level key control parameters are arranged into a first group and a second group. A second level quality matrix is generated for the first group. The second level quality matrix includes second level critical to quality parameters corresponding to the first group of first level key control parameters and a second level key control parameter. The second level quality matrix identifies an effect said second level key control parameter has on at least one second level critical to quality parameter.

Self Powered Current Sensor

US Patent:

Appl. No.:
09/286951
Inventors:
Ertugrul Berkcan - Niskayuna NY
Raymond Kelsey Seymour - Plainville CT
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G01R 3100
US Classification:
324117R, 324126, 324127
Abstract:
A self powered parallel bar current sensor for generating a signal which accurately represents current in a power line includes a power coil core having an opening extending therethrough, and a current sensing element including two substantially parallel sensing bars and a sensing coil. The sensing coil is disposed between the sensing bars, and the sensing bars and sensing coil extend through the power coil core opening. A reference coil may also be situated between the sensing bars. The current sensor is connected in series in the power line.

Electrical Contact Construction

US Patent:
4695688, Sep 22, 1987
Filed:
Mar 24, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/843435
Inventors:
George A. Farrall - Rexford NY
Raymond K. Seymour - Plainville CT
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
H01H 3366
US Classification:
200144B
Abstract:
An electrical contact assembly includes a contact, a contact support integrally connected to a first surface of the contact, and an insert disposed proximate a second, arc-supporting surface of the contact for stabilizing an electrical arc. In one embodiment of the invention the insert comprises an electrically insulating material inset in the arc-supporting surface and forming a metal-insulator boundary therewith. In another embodiment of the invention, the insert comprises a material having a relatively higher electrical resistivity than the contact, and disposed inside the contact so as to leave an integral metal current path from the arc supporting surface of the contact to the contact support, substantially through the center of the contact.

Alternating Current Sensor Based On Parallel-Plate Geometry And Having A Shunt For Self-Powering

US Patent:
5587652, Dec 24, 1996
Filed:
Nov 21, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/342505
Inventors:
Ertugrul Berkcan - Schenectady NY
Raymond K. Seymour - Plainville CT
John C. Grzelecki - Schenectady NY
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G01R 104
G01R 3300
US Classification:
324127
Abstract:
A current sensor includes a first conductor plate, a second conductor plate positioned in spaced relationship relative to the first conductor plate and facing the first conductor plate, and a third conductor plate for electrically interconnecting the first and second conductor plates to form a connected conductive path along the first and second conductor plates. The first and second conductor plates are shaped to form respective magnetic field constituents around each of the first and second conductor plates during current flow along the conductive path. A sensing coil, such as one or more air-core coils, is provided for sensing changes in magnetic flux within a predetermined sense region. A shunt, such as a shunt plate or a suitably shaped conductive structure for shunting current, is further provided for diverting a portion of the current which flows along the conductive path to produce a magnetic field over a shunt region. The sense and shunt regions are nonoverlapping with respect to one another.

Alternating Current Sensor Based On Concentric-Pipe Geometry And Having A Transformer For Providing Separate Self-Powering

US Patent:
5541503, Jul 30, 1996
Filed:
Nov 21, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/342504
Inventors:
Ertugrul Berkcan - Schenectady NY
Raymond K. Seymour - Plainville CT
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G01R 3300
G01R 120
US Classification:
324127
Abstract:
An alternating current sensor includes a conductive pipe and a cylindrical-shaped conductive element preferably partially surrounded by the pipe. The pipe is substantially concentric to the conductive element and a conductor electrically connects a pair of corresponding ends of the pipe and conductive element to form a connected conductive path through the sensor. The pipe and the conductive element are spaced apart a predetermined radial distance to form a magnetic field in the space between the pipe and the conductive element during current flow along the connected conductive path. A flux sensor, such as an air-core coil, senses changes in magnetic flux over a sense region situated in the space between the pipe and the conductive element. A transformer having a saturable magnetic core is responsive to a magnetic field over a transformer region for generating a predetermined level of electrical current which can be used for safely powering various electrical circuits associated with the current sensor.

Self-Powered Axial Current Sensor

US Patent:
6018239, Jan 25, 2000
Filed:
Oct 23, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/735719
Inventors:
Ertugrul Berkcan - Schenectady NY
Raymond Kelsey Seymour - Plainville CT
Jerome Johnson Tiemann - Schenectady NY
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G01R 120
H01F 2700
US Classification:

Abstract:
A self-powered axial current sensor for generating a signal which accurately represents current in a power line includes, in one embodiment, a housing having a bus bar opening of substantially rectangular shape extending longitudinally therethrough. The housing also includes current sensor core retaining walls which define a current sensor region, and a cover base wall which defines, with one of the retaining walls, a power core region. A current sensor core and coil are located in the current sensor region and are positioned proximate the bus bar opening. The current sensor core and coil also are substantially symmetrical with respect to the center axis of the bus bar opening. The current sensor further includes a power core and a power coil located in the power core region and positioned substantially symmetrically with respect to the center axis of bus bar opening.
