International Classification:
F01D 2524
US Classification:
4152141, 415108
Abstract:
A turbine shell assembly includes radially inner and outer shell components; axial alignment fits on the inner and outer shell components, each alignment fit comprising a male fit component on one of the inner and outer shell components and a female fit component on the other of the inner and outer shell components, the female fit component comprising a pair of flanges forming a U-shaped channel with opposed faces, and the male fit component comprising a projection received within the U-shaped channel; and a pair of axial alignment keys, each key having a mounting flange for securement along an outer edge of a respective one of the pair of flanges and an alignment flange engaged along a respective one of the opposed faces.

Steam Turbine Inlet And Methods Of Retrofitting

US Patent:
6609881, Aug 26, 2003
Filed:
Nov 15, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/987695
Inventors:
Daniel Mark Brown - Altamont NY
George Horner Kirby - Charlton NY
Andrew Ivan Christopher Hunter - Cohoes NY
Richard Lloyd Mattice - Broadalbin NY
Brian E. Thompson - London, CA
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F01D 902
US Classification:
415102, 415185
Abstract:
A pair of steam turbine inlet ports are disposed at opposite sides of a steam turbine housing for flowing steam in opposite circumferential directions in a generally annular steam chamber to first stages of a turbine through axially opposite outlets. Portions of the chamber in the upper and lower housing have decreasing cross-sections in a generally circumferential direction away from the steam inlet portions to provide a substantially uniform flow of steam about the chamber in a generally radially inward direction and about and through the axial outlets.

Steam Turbine Low Pressure Inlet Flow Conditioner And Related Method

US Patent:
6629819, Oct 7, 2003
Filed:
May 14, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/143873
Inventors:
Daniel M. Brown - Altamont NY
George Kirby - Newburyport MA
Richard Mattice - Broadalbin NY
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F01D 900
US Classification:
4152081
Abstract:
A flow conditioner for a steam turbine inlet includes an annular ring adapted to seat in a flange portion of an inlet in a turbine casing and a pair of wing portions extending from the annular ring in a flow direction, away from the annular ring. A related method of smoothing flow through an inlet of a steam turbine inlet casing wherein the inlet includes a circular flange and a non-circular transition portion extending between the annular flange and a main body portion of the steam turbine casing includes the steps of a) identifying surface discontinuities that disrupt flow of working fluid through the steam inlet; b) providing a flow conditioner that is shaped to conceal one or more of the surface discontinuities; and c) inserting the flow conditioner into the inlet.

Nuclear Low Pressure Packing Casing For Rotary Machine And Casing Fabrication Method

US Patent:
2004009, May 13, 2004
Filed:
Nov 12, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/291654
Inventors:
Noel Bylina - Niskayuna NY, US
Richard Mattice - Broadalbin NY, US
International Classification:
F16J015/18
F16J015/26
US Classification:
277/510000
Abstract:
A nuclear low pressure packing casing having reduced horizontal joint leakage. This is accomplished by providing packing ring carriers that are separately formed from the casing so that thermal distortion loads will not be transmitted to the horizontal joints. In an embodiment of the invention, the packing ring carriers are fit in place in pre-machine grooves in the casing rather than being welded directly to the casing. According to further, optional feature of the invention, the vent or seal steam enters or exits at only one of the bottom quadrants rather than the entire bottom half so that the packing case design can be simplified to reduce fabrication and material costs.
