Reel

US Patent:
8424796, Apr 23, 2013
Filed:
Nov 11, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/944359
Inventors:
Richard P. Witwer - Lancaster PA, US
Seth Galewyrick - Asheville NC, US
Andrew Weiman - Langhorne PA, US
John Coleman - Philadelphia PA, US
Assignee:
Direct Wire & Cable, Inc. - Denver PA
International Classification:
B65H 75/22
US Classification:
2426086, 2426091, 2421186
Abstract:
A reel comprises a cylindrical core composed of two complementary arcuate core segments, a pair of flanges disposed respectively at axially spaced opposite ends of the core, and a pair of rings for connecting the core to the flanges. The rings are fixed respectively to facing inner sides of the flanges. Cooperating slots and tongues on the rings and core elements prevent the flanges from moving relative to the core in the direction of the axis of the core. The tongues enter the slots when the core segments are brought together. Resiliently bendable locking arms protrude radially inward from both ends of each core segment, and each locking arm is engageable by a snap fit with one of the rings when the core segments are brought together. Access openings in the flanges adjacent each of the locking arms allow access to the locking arms for disengagement from the rings.

Knockdown Reel Assembly

5806788, Sep 15, 1998
Filed:
Jun 27, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/884412
Inventors:

Assignee:
Direct Wire and Cable, Inc. - Denver PA
International Classification:

US Classification:
2426086
Abstract:
A reel assembly for large packages of cable and wire. The reel assembly includes a pair of separate drum segments which, when assembled, form a hollow cylindrical drum for winding wire or cable therearound. The drum segments have inwardly extending beads which lock separate end flanges on opposite sides of the drum. The end flanges are of two piece construction including a hub secured to a skirt The hub has a lip for engaging the beads of the drum segments when the reel is assembled. The reel assembly has means for automatically releasably locking the drum segments to the hub lip when the drum segments side edges are urged into engagement with one another.

Drum For Storage And Transportation Of Articles And Materials

US Patent:
2018011, Apr 26, 2018
Filed:
Apr 27, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/569857
Inventors:
Richard WITWER - Lancaster PA, US
Seth GALEWYRICK - Victor MT, US
Howard Finley LIVINGSTON - Lancaster PA, US
Andrew WEIMAN - Langhorne PA, US
- Denver PA, US
Assignee:

B65D 1/16
B65H 49/38
Abstract:
A drum for storage and transportation of a coil, the drum comprises a base having a bottom part configured to rest on a planar horizontal surface. A hollow core having a polygonal cross-sectional shape extends from the top side of the base. A cover also extends from the top side of the base and has an inner wall in the form of a circular cylinder. The cover is spaced from the core, forming an annular space for receiving a coil of cable, tubing or the like. The core is composed of a plurality of substantially planar parts hinged to one another so that the core can be collapsed and stored or shipped in a substantially flat condition and expanded to its polygonal shape for connection to the base. The cover is composed of two or more arc-shaped parts, which are capable of being nested for storage and shipment.
