Jun 2, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/446552
Inventors:
Hyuck Choo - Albany CA, US
Richard S. Muller - Kensington CA, US
David Garmire - El Cerrito CA, US
James W. Demmel - Berkeley CA, US
Rishi Kant - Stanford CA, US
Assignee:
The Regents of the University of California - Oakland CA
International Classification:
G01B 9/02
G01L 1/24
US Classification:
356450, 356 355
Abstract:
Provided herein are optical devices fabricated to include a reflective surface, actuators and stress-relieving structures. Systems containing such devices, and methods of manufacturing such devices, are also provided.

Deposition-Free Sealing For Micro- And Nano-Fabrication

US Patent:
2012010, May 3, 2012
Filed:
Oct 28, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/284431
Inventors:
Rishi Kant - Belmont CA, US
Roger Thomas Howe - Los Gatos CA, US
Assignee:
The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
H01L 23/20
H01L 21/768
US Classification:
257682, 438667, 257E23138, 257E21577
Abstract:
A method for sealing through-holes in a material via material diffusion, without the deposition of a sealant material, is disclosed. The method is well suited to the fabrication and packaging of microsystems technology-based devices and systems. In some embodiments, the method comprises forming sacrificial material release through-holes through a structural layer, removing the sacrificial material via an etch that etches the sacrificial material through the release through-holes, and sealing of the release through-holes via material diffusion.

Expandable Suspension For A Read/Write Head In A Disk File

US Patent:
4670804, Jun 2, 1987
Filed:
Oct 15, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/787281
Inventors:
Rishi Kant - Portola Valley CA
Dennis R. McEfee - San Jose CA
Thomas F. Roth - San Jose CA
Richard K. Wilmer - San Jose CA
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G11B 560
US Classification:
360102
Abstract:
A suspension for an air-bearing slider 32 in a data recording disk file is an envelope 30 which expands when pressurized air enters the envelope interior. The envelope 30 includes a pair of flat flexible sheets 50, 52, preferably of polyimide, which are secured at their perimeters 54, and stiffeners 40, 42, 56 bonded to the sheets 50, 52 to provide stiffness between the slider 32 and the arm attached to the disk file actuator. Four parallel strips 60, 62, 63, 64 on the polyimide sheets 50, 52 function as hinges so that the envelope expands in the manner of a four-bar linkage, thus moving the slider 32 toward the disk with the slider's air-bearing surface maintained generally parallel to the data surface of the disk. Electrical conductors 80 for connecting the read/write transducer 33 supported on the slider 32 to the read/write circuitry of the disk file are formed on one of the polyimide sheets 50.

Optical System With Reduced Focus Spot Size

US Patent:
5615050, Mar 25, 1997
Filed:
Dec 6, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/571704
Inventors:
Rishi Kant - Mountain View CA
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G02B 1318
US Classification:
359711
Abstract:
A toroidal lens has a first surface comprised of a convex curve rotated about a central axis and a second surface comprised of a concave curve rotated about the central axis. The toroidal lens receives a radiation beam and produces an annular or halo shaped radiation beam. This resulting annular beam is focussed by a focussing lens to a reduced focus spot size without sacrificing depth of focus.

Bioartificial Ultrafiltration Device And Methods Related Thereto

US Patent:

Filed:
Mar 7, 2017
Appl. No.:
16/082501
Inventors:
- Oakland CA, US
Rishi KANT - Belmont CA, US
Andrew POSSELT - Mill Valley CA, US
Shang SONG - Redwood City CA, US
Willieford MOSES - Oakland CA, US
Charles BLAHA - San Francisco CA, US
Assignee:
The Regents of the University of California - Oakland CA
International Classification:
A61M 1/16
B01D 63/08
B01D 69/02
B01D 69/12
B01D 71/02
B01D 67/00
B01D 61/14
A61B 5/15
A61M 1/36
Abstract:
(57) Abstract: Bioartificial ultrafiltration devices comprising a scaffold comprising a population of cells enclosed in a matrix and disposed adjacent a plurality of channels are provided. The population of cells provides molecules such as therapeutic molecules to a subject in need thereof and is supported by the nutrients filtered in an ultrafiltrate from the blood of the subject. The plurality of channels in the scaffold facilitate the transportation of the ultrafiltrate and exchange of molecules between the ultrafiltrate and the population of cells.
