Acoustic Cores With Sound-Attenuating Protuberances

US Patent:
2021032, Oct 21, 2021
Filed:
May 28, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/333085
Inventors:
- Schenectady NY, US
Shanmugam Murugappan - Mason OH, US
Robert William Davidoff - Pittsburgh PA, US
Graham Frank Howarth - Middletown DE, US
Andrew Michael Roach - Aberdeen MD, US
International Classification:
F02C 7/045
B33Y 80/00
B33Y 10/00
B29C 64/10
B28B 1/00
B23P 15/00
B22F 10/10
Abstract:
An acoustic core has a plurality of cell walls formed of an additive-manufacturing material and a resonant space defined by the plurality of cell walls. At least some of the resonant cells have a multitude of sound-attenuating protuberances formed of the additive-manufacturing material of the cell walls protruding into the resonant space with a random or semi-random orientation and/or size. The sound-attenuating protuberances may be formed by orienting an additive-manufacturing tool with respect to a toolpath to form a contour of a workpart, in which the toolpath includes a plurality of overlapping toolpath passes configured so as to intentionally introduce an amount of additive-manufacturing material to the workpart that exceeds a domain occupied by the contour. As the amount of additive-manufacturing material intentionally introduced exceeds the domain occupied by the contour, a portion of the additive-manufacturing material may incidentally form the plurality of sound-attenuating protuberances.

Acoustic Liners With Enhanced Acoustic Absorption And Reduced Drag Characteristics

US Patent:

Robert William Davidoff - Pittsburgh PA, US
David Patrick Calder - Baltimore MD, US
Graham Frank Howarth - Middletown DE, US
International Classification:
F02C 7/045
F02K 1/82
F04D 29/66
Abstract:
An acoustic liner may include an acoustic core having an array of resonant cells, and an acoustic screen disposed across the array of resonant cells. The resonant cells include a plurality of cell walls and a resonant space defined by the plurality of cell walls. The acoustic core may include a folded acoustic core. Additionally, or in the alternative, at least some of the resonant cells may include an oblique polyhedral cellular structure and/or a multitude of sound-attenuating protuberances. The acoustic screen may include a reticulate membrane and a support lattice.

Additively Manufactured Hollow Body Component With Interior Curved Supports

US Patent:
2018037, Dec 27, 2018
Filed:
Jun 26, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/632656
Inventors:
- Schenectady NY, US
Elisabeth Kraus Black - Greenville SC, US
Robert William Davidoff - Pittsburgh PA, US
Zachary John Snider - Simpsonville SC, US
International Classification:
F01D 5/14
F01D 5/18
Abstract:
A hollowed body component made by additive manufacturing is disclosed. The hollow body has a longitudinal extent, an exterior surface and an interior surface, the interior surface having a first side and an opposing, second side. A first set of curved supports are curved along lengths thereof and extend between the first side and the opposing, second side to support the hollow body at least during the additive manufacturing thereof. Some embodiments include cooling passages open to the interior surface. Here, the curved supports extend between opposing pairs of passage-free spaces on the interior surface to support the hollow body at least during the additive manufacturing thereof. In one example, the component is an impingement insert for a hot gas path component.

Appl. No.:
14/942159
Inventors:
- Schenectady NY, US
Gregory Lee Hovis - Martinez GA, US
William F. Ranson - Columbia SC, US
Robert William Davidoff - Greenville SC, US
International Classification:
G06T 7/00
G06K 9/46
F01D 5/02
F01D 5/12
F01D 21/00
F01D 25/24
F04D 29/32
F04D 29/52
F04D 29/54
F04D 27/00
G06K 9/62
F01D 9/02
Abstract:
Methods for monitoring components are provided. A component has an exterior surface. A method includes locating a centroid of a reference feature configured on the component, and measuring a first value of a characteristic of the reference feature relative to the centroid at a first time. The method further includes measuring a second value of the characteristic relative to the centroid at a second time after the first time, and comparing the first value and the second value.

Assemblies And Methods For Monitoring Turbine Component Strain

US Patent:
2016031, Nov 3, 2016
Filed:
Apr 28, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/697766
Inventors:
- Schenectady NY, US
Blake Ashton Nickles - Greenville SC, US
William F. Ranson - Columbia SC, US
Robert William Davidoff - Greenville SC, US
International Classification:
F01D 21/00
