Pain is the body's response to injury, evolutionarily designed to protect us and protect our body as it heals. However, pain often continues out of proportion to the injury and for a unnecessarily prolonged duration. I believe correct diagnosis and understanding the whole patient are the keys to me being able to effectively help a patient with their pain. I believe in the use of all modalities to treat pain, but I am least in favor of opioid medications unless there is no better alternative.
