Container And Method Of Growing A Plant

US Patent:
5852896, Dec 29, 1998
Filed:
Nov 10, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/966685
Inventors:
Robert J. Flasch - Orland CA
International Classification:
A01G 2500
US Classification:
47 79
Abstract:
A container and methodolgy for growing a plant in soil, the soil within an area defined by an annular inner wall having an open top end to expose the soil and plant to ambient air; the inner wall includes transverse holes around its circumference and up its length. In one embodiment the inner wall includes a water impervious circumferal band at its upper end to help maintain the soil top surface dry. An outer annular wall of water impervious material laterally surrounds, in spaced relationship, the inner wall to define an open space with upper opening between the walls into which water can be applied and air may flow. The space between the walls at the bottom end thereof is sealed with a floor leaving only the transverse holes in the inner wall as flow paths through which the water enters the soil from the space. The volume of the space between the walls is sufficient to receive enough water to saturate the soil and provide some excess water for removing salts from the soil. A bottom floor spanning or beneath the bottom of the inner wall includes drain holes through which the excess water having entered the soil may drain, and thereafter through which air may enter.
