Line Type Indicator For Fishing Reel

US Patent:
5568787, Oct 29, 1996
Filed:
Nov 16, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/558387
Inventors:
Robert L. Forslund - Catoosa OK
Assignee:
Zebco Division of Brunswick Corporation - Tulsa OK
International Classification:
G09F 940
A01K 8900
US Classification:
116307
Abstract:
An apparatus for indicating line type on a fishing reel having a spool for storing a supply of fishing line and structure for wrapping the fishing line onto the spool to effect retrieval of paid out fishing line. The apparatus includes a rotatable dial or other settable structure on the fishing reel for giving a user a visual indication of which of a plurality of different types of fishing line is on the spool.

Drag Mechanism For A Fishing Reel Spool

US Patent:
5752667, May 19, 1998
Filed:
Aug 23, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/702109
Inventors:
Scott T. Merrill - Mounds OK
Robert L. Forslund - Catoosa OK
Ronald M. Cross - Tulsa OK
Assignee:
Brunswick Corporation - Lake Forest IL
International Classification:
A01K 89033
US Classification:
242296
Abstract:
A fly fishing reel is disclosed which allows for a simplified construction allowing for reversibility of the drag effect on a spool to facilitate left- or right-hand operation without disassembling small parts which can be lost in the boat. The spool structure is strengthened by virtue of a tapered design. A snap-on cap doubles as a support for a spring that holds the spool to a shaft.

Keyed Spool Bearing

US Patent:
5222688, Jun 29, 1993
Filed:
May 29, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/706641
Inventors:
Robert Forslund - Tulsa OK
Melvin Matheson - Tulsa OK
Assignee:
Zebco Corporation - Tulsa OK
International Classification:
A01K 8902
F16B 300
US Classification:
242246
Abstract:
A keyed spool bearing for a fishing reel of the type having a reel frame body or deck plate, there being a forwardly projecting cylindrical support or hub with a cylindrical bore therein on the reel frame body. A cylindrical center shaft bushing having an axial center shaft receiving bore is inserted into the bore of the cylindrical hub with a portion of the bushing extending forwardly from the cylindrical hub. The keyed spool bearing is mounted on the extending portion of the bushing. A line spool having a cylindrical bore of a predetermined diameter is mounted on the spool bearing. The keyed spool bearing has an annular body with an axial bore therein for receiving the forwardly protruding portion of the bushing. An integral key or tab extends axially and rearwardly from the annular body, the tab being configured to be received in a slot in the reel frame to secure the spool bearing against rotation relative to the reel frame upon rotation of the line spool.

Motion Limiting Device For Inertial Spool Brakes For Fishing Reels

US Patent:
5782420, Jul 21, 1998
Filed:
Feb 21, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/391967
Inventors:
Robert L. Forslund - Catoosa OK
David E. Valentine - Ft. Wayne IN
Assignee:
Zebco Division of Brunswick Corp. - Tulsa OK
International Classification:
A01K 8902
US Classification:
242289
Abstract:
A centrifugally actuated braking system on an end flange of the line spool of a bait cast reel. A series of raised lands or stops on the end flange cooperates with projections on the brake pads mounted on radiating brake arms to limit radial movement of the centrifugally actuated brake pads. Orthogonal brake arms are joined by an arcuate section which rides in an annular groove in the spool shaft. Additional weights for increasing braking power may be slidingly mounted on the brake arms behind the brake pads. A retainer ring sliding onto the spool shaft holds the brake arms in place. An inner lip on the retainer ring rides in a second annular groove in the spool shaft to hold the retainer ring in its locking position on the shaft.
