Shimming System

US Patent:
4662553, May 5, 1987
Filed:
Jul 25, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/888289
Inventors:
Robert M. Grosjean - Toledo OH
International Classification:
B26F 302
E05D 1506
US Classification:
225103
Abstract:
A shimming system and shim assembly are provided, particularly for door guides and supports for sliding and folding doors of closets and the like. The shim assembly includes shim members having shim plates and projections of different lengths so that different shim members can be assembled in stacked relationship with one another to raise the door guide or support to a desired height. The shim members are of clear plastic material so as not to require painting, staining, or the like. Each shim member can be readily reduced to proper width and length so as to be positioned completely under the base of the door guide or support and thereby be substantially concealed. The shim plates have score grooves by which portions can be broken off to reduce the shim plate to the proper size and the shimming system includes a tool for facilitating removal of the unwanted portions beyond the score grooves. The tool is of sufficient length so as to readily remove end portions of the shim plate beyond transverse grooves or a longitudinal portion of the shim plate beyond a longitudinal groove.

Apparatus For Actuating A Breakaway Conveyor Section

US Patent:
4753337, Jun 28, 1988
Filed:
Sep 18, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/908710
Inventors:
Robert M. Grosjean - Toledo OH
International Classification:
B65G 4300
US Classification:
198583
Abstract:
An apparatus for actuating a breakaway conveyor section includes an actuating means positioned below a lower edge of a fire door adapted to move vertically downward along an outside wall of a building to close an opening. A breakaway conveyor section is pivotly connected to an end of a fixed conveyor section outside the building and extends adjacent to an end of a fixed conveyor section inside the building and extending into the opening in the wall. The actuating means includes an actuating plate positioned below a lower edge of the fire door and pivotally connected to a pair of generally vertically extending slides by a pair of lever arms. The slides are maintained in an upper position by a pair of link arms pivotally connected to form an over center mechanism attached between the slides and the conveyor inside the building. A lower end of the slides is slidingly attached to horizontal slides which extend through the opening in the wall to support a free end of the breakaway conveyor section. When the fire door is released, it falls, striking the actuating plate which pivots about the vertical slides to release the over center mechanism and allows the vertical slides to drop.

Disposable Device For Sharpening Leads Or The Like

US Patent:
3991798, Nov 16, 1976
Filed:
Sep 19, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/615052
Inventors:
Robert M. Grosjean - Toledo OH
International Classification:
B43L 2300
US Classification:
144 281
Abstract:
A device is provided for sharpening leads of pencils or the like. The sharpening device is disposable and is designed to be thrown away when filled, without the necessity for cleaning out the device which inherently results in a dirty mess and in a waste of time. The sharpening device employs a minimum number of parts so as to achieve low cost and dependability in operation. A main top unit and a main lower unit are rotatably connected together without any additional elements such as nuts or the like being required. The sharpener also includes a gasket which retains the powdered graphite from the lead in the lower unit and also wipes the lead being sharpened. The outer wall of the lower unit has a truncated conical abrasive surface to effect the sharpening, with this wall being somewhat flexible to avoid breakage of the lead being sharpened. The sharpener can be mounted in place on a drafting table or the like by an adhesive disc or by a separable mounting block which is reusable.
