Piezoelectric Monolithic Crystal Element Having Improved Response

US Patent:
4149102, Apr 10, 1979
Filed:
Oct 31, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/846851
Inventors:
Robert A. Kellen - Arlington Heights IL
Assignee:
Motorola, Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
H01L 4110
US Classification:
310320
Abstract:
A piezoelectric monolithic crystal filter operating in the trapped energy mode and having a capacitor plated on the piezoelectric wafer within energy coupling distance of the main electrodes has its output response improved by trapping wave energy, at the frequencies of the main electrodes, engendered by the capacitor and conducting such energy to the edges of the piezoelectric wafer where it is dissipated. Such energy is therefore not coupled into the filter structure and does not appear as an undesirable response.

Inductor Structure With Integral Components

US Patent:
5083236, Jan 21, 1992
Filed:
Sep 28, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/589954
Inventors:
Marc K. Chason - Schaumburg IL
Robert A. Kellen - Arlington Heights IL
Leng H. Ooi - Sunrise FL
George Revtai - Plantation FL
Assignee:
Motorola, Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
H05K 118
US Classification:
361401
Abstract:
An inductor structure, that houses a shorted transmission line inductor, includes components mounted within the volume carrying the shorted transmission line. Dielectric substrate layers which carry the shorted transmission line components and the electronic devices when sandwiched together can be coated with a metallic layer that acts as a shield protecting the internal components from external undesired sources. Mounting components within the inductor volume potentially saves space on a circuit board.
