Skew Eliminating Sheet Feeding Mechanism

US Patent:
3980295, Sep 14, 1976
Filed:
Jan 13, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/540524
Inventors:
Robert E. Kleid - Fairfield CT
Assignee:
Pitney-Bowes, Inc. - Stamford CT
International Classification:
B65H 900
B65H 506
US Classification:
271242
Abstract:
The side portions of a sheet are fed equally and in synchronism with its central portion so that when any side portion of a skewed sheet leads the central portion along the path of movement of the sheet said side portion will be held back until the central portion begins its feeding movement thereby eliminating skew in the sheet. The mechanism includes a drive shaft supporting a central drive roller secured thereon and idle rollers spaced to either side of the drive roller, and a driven shaft supporting a series of rollers secured thereto in opposition to the rollers on the drive shaft, the drive roller and its opposing roller being out of contact with one another but capable of contacting a sheet introduced therebetween, the idle rollers contacting their respective opposing rollers.

Continuous Sheet Collating Method And Apparatus

US Patent:
4014535, Mar 29, 1977
Filed:
May 25, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/689956
Inventors:
Robert E. Kleid - Fairfield CT
Donald J. Illk - Stamford CT
Ferris Gene Keyt - Trumbull CT
Assignee:
Pitney-Bowes, Inc. - Stamford CT
International Classification:
B41F 1364
US Classification:
270 19
Abstract:
A continuous sheet collating system is disclosed for printed texts wherein a continuous web of printed sheet-like material is continuously fed to a continuously, uninterrupted, collating drum. The web is wrapped upon the rotating drum a number of times equal to the number of printed sheets (less one) desired in a (text) collated stack of printed sheets. The wrapped web is then severed at the desired wrap number to provide collated individual sheets of the printed text in their proper sequential order. These sheets are then discharged from the collating drum as a unitized mass of collated printed sheets in textual context.

Sealing Machine

US Patent:
4004962, Jan 25, 1977
Filed:
Jun 9, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/584872
Inventors:
Robert Eugene Kleid - Fairfield CT
Assignee:
Pitney-Bowes, Inc. - Stamford CT
International Classification:
B32B 3100
US Classification:
156475
Abstract:
An automatic machine which utilizes sealing tape to seal the edges of a folded article passing therethrough. The machine is so designed that articles which do not require sealing pass through unimpeded. Other articles are sealed by one or more cylindrically-shaped tape applying heads, to each of which there is fed a supply of sealing tape, in combination with folded apparatus. At the appropriate time each of the taping heads is caused to advance against the article to be sealed, causing a portion of the tape to stick to the article. The taping head revolves slightly under the influence of the moving article and then comes to an abrupt halt, breaking the tape. The folding apparatus holds the non-adhered portion of the detached tape around the edge to be sealed and into engagement with the opposite side of the article.
