Ph.D., MicrobiologyDissertation research was focused on the energy metabolism of an anaerobic acetogenic (acetic acid producing) bacteria capable of metabolizing both hydrogen and sugars. Determined that the bacteria had a total of seven cryptic plasmids and was able to metabolize both hydrogen and sugars simultaneously. This bacterial species was isolated from the rumen of a dairy cow.
