Method And System For The Electrochemical Co-Production Of Halogen And Carbon Monoxide For Carbonylated Products

US Patent:
2013013, May 30, 2013
Filed:
Dec 21, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/724996
Inventors:
Liquid Light, Inc. - Monmouth Junction NJ, US
Jerry J. Kaczur - North Miami Beach FL, US
Robert Page Shirtum - Sonora TX, US
Assignee:
Liquid Light, Inc. - Monmouth Junction NJ
International Classification:
C25B 15/08
US Classification:
205349
Abstract:
The present disclosure is a system and method for producing a first product from a first region of an electrochemical cell having a cathode and a second product from a second region of the electrochemical cell having an anode. The method may include a step of contacting the first region with a catholyte including carbon dioxide and contacting the second region with an anolyte including a recycled reactant. The method may further include applying an electrical potential between the anode and the cathode sufficient to produce carbon monoxide recoverable from the first region and a halogen recoverable from the second region.

Apparatus For Producing Alkylene Glycols, Alkyene Glycols Having Higher Primary Hydroxyl Content, Method Of Producing Glycols Having Higher Primary Hydroxyl Content, Method Of Producing Acrylate Esters

US Patent:
5693870, Dec 2, 1997
Filed:
May 3, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/433705
Inventors:
Jeffrey David Birdwell - Lake Jackson TX
Philip Jay Carlberg - Lake Jackson TX
Micheal L. Chappell - Lake Jackson TX
Frank Harold Murphy - Lake Jackson TX
Robert Page Shirtum - Freeport TX
Walter L. Wernli - Angleton TX
Assignee:
The Dow Chemical Company - Midland MI
International Classification:
C07C 4311
US Classification:
568619
Abstract:
Disclosed is an apparatus and process for producing a tripropylene glycol in which alkylene oxide, water, an acid catalyst and a dipropylene glycol are contacted together under conditions suitable to form the tripropylene glycol. Water is present in the reaction mixture in the range of about 1 to about 50 weight percent of the reaction mixture. The ratio of water to alkylene oxide is less than about 9. The tripropylene glycol thus produced exhibits a higher primary hydroxyl group content generally exceeding 36 percent. Such tripropylene glycols find utility in the production of acrylics. Also disclosed is a process for making esters from such glycols.
