Abstract:
The invention provides, in some aspects, devices for image acquisition that use seals (e. g. , O-rings) between concentrically disposed portions of an enclosure and an optics assembly (or sub-assemblies thereof) in order to protect image acquisition components from the surrounding environment (and vice versa) while, at the same time, providing adequate friction for both adjusting and locking focus. Such devices include, in one aspect of the invention, an image capture medium (e. g. , a CMOS sensor, CCD array, etc. ) that is disposed within an enclosure and an optics assembly that is also disposed within that enclosure, rotatably. The optics assembly, which includes at least a lens, can have a cylindrical outer diameter along at least a portion of its length that is received within the enclosure along a length that has a corresponding cylindrical inner diameter. A first seal (e. g. , an “O-ring”) is disposed between, and in contact with, the optics assembly and the enclosure, e. g.

A first seal is disposed between, and in contact with, the optics assembly and the enclosure. That seal permits rotation of the optics assembly for purposes of focusing the lens, while preventing contamination from the environment from entering into the enclosure.

System, Method And Graphical User Interface For Displaying And Controlling Vision System Operating Parameters

US Patent:
2013007, Mar 21, 2013
Filed:
Aug 2, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/565609
Inventors:
Steven Whitman - Danville NH, US
Robert J. Tremblay - Grafton MA, US
Carroll Arbogast, JR. - Needham MA, US
G. Scott Schuff - Ashland MA, US
Emily Hart - Somerville MA, US
Assignee:
COGNEX CORPORATION - Natick MA
International Classification:
G06F 3/0481
US Classification:
715799
Abstract:
A system, method and GUI for displaying and controlling vision system operating parameters includes an automated region of interest (ROI) graphic image that is applied to a discrete region of a selected image in response to a single click by a user. At least one automated operating parameter is generated automatically in response to the single click by the user at the discrete region, so as to determine whether a feature of interest (such as a pattern, a blob or an edge) is in the automated ROI graphic image. Illustratively, the automated ROI graphic image (a pass/fail graphic image) is user-movable to allow the user to move the automated ROI graphic image from a first positioning to a second positioning, to thereby automatically reset the operating parameter to a predetermined value in accordance with the second positioning.

Apparatus For Folding Paper Boxes

US Patent:
5230686, Jul 27, 1993
Filed:
Aug 19, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/932305
Inventors:
Hugh A. McAdam - Hollis NH
James Pacocha - Hudson NH
Robert Tremblay - Hollis NH
Assignee:
International Paper Box Machine Co., Inc. - Nashua NH
International Classification:
B31B 358
B31B 558
US Classification:
493 23
Abstract:
Apparatus for folding blanks particularly those constructed from corrugated cardboard. As a blank advances along a paper line pathway, a first station engages the leading edges of the blank flaps and forces the flaps into an intermediate plane. A second station controls the relative velocity of the flaps along the paper line with respect to the panels to compensate for skew that can occur at other stations. A final station completes the folding operation. The second station includes driven rollers that engage opposite sides of each of the flaps. Independently controlled motors drive these rollers in response to the velocity of the blanks along a paper line pathway and any required offset for skew compensation. The controls can be remotely located from the station. Moreover, the station can accommodate blanks of different thicknesses, position the rollers at different locations on different flaps and accommodate cartons with different widths.

Method Of Packaging Box Flats

US Patent:
4873813, Oct 17, 1989
Filed:
Mar 17, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/026756
Inventors:
Raymond A. Labombarde - Nashua NH
Robert A. Tremblay - Hollis NH
Assignee:
International Paper Box Machine Co., Inc. - Nashua NH
International Classification:
B65B 6302
US Classification:
53438
Abstract:
An apparatus and method by which a single operator, at a single station, can pack pre-counted slugs of flat folded cartons, or trays, in one or more layers, in corrugated cases for discharge to a case taper several times faster than with manual packing by several operators. The "flats" are advanced in a longitudinal path on a secondary apron of a stacker, erect on one edge, pre-counted and divided into slugs, so that the single operator can slide each slug longitudinally past a one-way back stop onto a transfer table. The slug may be turned on its longitudinal axis by the operator for inspection and then compressed longitudinally by a ram against the back stop. The operator has already been presented with a single, flat, tubular case, from a stack of such cases, with the leading flaps folded back, and has manually erected the case and inserted it in a case gripper preferably poised above the table, thereby closing the minor bottom closure flaps. A start button brings the case gripper down to the level of the transfer table so that the operator can push the compressed slug laterally into the open case, resting on its side wall in the case gripper. The case is automatically lowered to receive the next slug and when full, is turned on a longitudinal axis through 90. degree.

Apparatus And Method For Folding Blanks With An Unusually Elongated Wall

US Patent:
4279611, Jul 21, 1981
Filed:
Jan 7, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/109980
Inventors:
Raymond A. Labombarde - Nashua NH
Robert A. Tremblay - Hudson NH
International Classification:
B31B 136
B31B 196
US Classification:
493418
Abstract:
A box blank of the type having two side walls and a front wall of normal length but a combined bottom and rear wall of unusual length is folded and glued on a box folding and gluing machine by advancing the blanks along a horizontal path, long wall first, and overlapped in shingled formation. The first long wall in the formation encounters an air blast, or hooked finger, which unfolds the leading edge to encounter a ramp-like guide which bends it back to fold on its fold line, while also back folding the next successive long wall. All successive blanks are so back folded in "domino" fashion.

Apparatus For Folding Paper Boxes

US Patent:
5092827, Mar 3, 1992
Filed:
Sep 28, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/413790
Inventors:
Hugh A. McAdam - Wilton NH
Robert Tremblay - Hollis NH
James Pacocha - Hudson NH
Assignee:
International Paper Box Machine Co., Inc. - Nashua NH
International Classification:
B31B 526
B31B 358
US Classification:
493179
Abstract:
Apparatus and a method for folding flaps onto panels formed in folded box blanks, particularly those constructed from corrugated cardboard. As a blank advances along a paper line, a first station engages leading edges of the flaps and forces the flaps into an intermediate plane representing a partial folding operation. Then a second station controls the relative velocities of the flaps along the paper line with respect to the panels to compensate for skew that can occur in other stations. A final station completes the folding operation. The resulting fold is made about an axis, or fold line. If the flap is to be folded about a prestamped score line, the fold and score lines are coextensive. Typically the flaps are folded 180. degree. and the first station produces intermediate folds that are displaced 90. degree.
