Removal Of Water From Bio-Oil

US Patent:
8083900, Dec 27, 2011
Filed:
Aug 9, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/853077
Inventors:
Ronny W. Lin - Sugar Land TX, US
Assignee:
Kior Inc. - Pasadena TX
International Classification:
C10B 47/00
F27B 15/08
US Classification:
201 12, 201 21, 201 23, 201 25, 422145, 585240
Abstract:
A process and system for separating water from bio-oil by using a partial condenser. The process comprises partially condensing vapor conversion products from a biomass conversion reaction to produce a water-rich overhead stream and a water-depleted stream comprising condensed bio-oil. The partial condenser removes a substantial portion of the water from the bio-oil, while providing an effective and flexible process for producing bio-oil.

Removal Of Bound Water From Bio-Oil

US Patent:
8323456, Dec 4, 2012
Filed:
Aug 26, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/869395
Inventors:
Ronny W. Lin - Sugar Land TX, US
Robert Bartek - Centennial CO, US
Assignee:
KiOR, Inc. - Pasadena TX
International Classification:
B01D 3/36
C07C 7/06
US Classification:
203 14, 203 59, 203 68, 203 69, 203 94, 203 98, 208347, 210774, 585860, 585867, 44307, 201 3, 201 28
Abstract:
A process and system for removing bound water from bio-oil by azeotropic distillation. The process includes combining a bound-water-containing bio-oil with an azeotrope agent and subjecting the resulting treated bio-oil to azeotropic distillation under reduced pressure. The azeotropic distillation removes a substantial portion of the bound water from the bio-oil, thus producing a water-depleted bio-oil that is less corrosive, more stable, and more readily miscible with hydrocarbons.

Solids Removal From Bio-Oil Using Biomass Filter Aid

US Patent:
2012001, Jan 19, 2012
Filed:
Jul 13, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/835499
Inventors:
Ronny W. Lin - Sugar Land TX, US
Assignee:
KIOR, INC. - Pasadena TX
International Classification:
B01D 36/00
B01D 29/76
C10B 53/00
B01D 33/00
C10B 49/00
B01D 37/02
B01D 29/00
US Classification:
201 3, 210777, 210778, 210769, 210768, 201 28
Abstract:
A green process and system are disclosed for utilizing a biomass filter aid in the filtration of a bio-oil. The process comprises filtering a bio-oil containing residual solids from a conversion reaction in the presence of the biomass filter aid to produce a filtered bio-oil. The biomass filter aid facilitates efficient removal of residual solids from the bio-oil. The spent biomass filter aid containing the residual solids may be recycled as a conversion feedstock or used as a combustion heat source in the biomass conversion system.

Process For Producing Biofuel Using A Pre-Treated Deoxygenated Stream

US Patent:
2014002, Jan 23, 2014
Filed:
Jul 19, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/553742
Inventors:
Ronny W. Lin - Sugar Land TX, US
Lorenz J. Bauer - Pasadena TX, US
International Classification:
C10L 1/02
C10G 1/06
US Classification:
44307, 585240
Abstract:
A process for preparing a renewable biofuel consists of subjecting a bio-oil mixture to deoxygenation in a hydrotreater and then separating hydrocarbon fractions from the deoxygenated product to form the biofuel. The bio-oil mixture contains a bio-oil feedstream and a treated bio-oil feed. The treated bio-oil feed is a stream from which undesirable heavy materials and solid materials have been removed.

Process For Recovering Organics From Wastewater

US Patent:
2014007, Mar 20, 2014
Filed:
Aug 23, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/975092
Inventors:

Assignee:
KiOR, Inc. - Pasadena TX
International Classification:
C02F 1/52
US Classification:
210702
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for treating wastewater by removing organics, such as water-soluble organics, by catalysis in the presence of an acid. Removal of such organics is in the form of a tar which includes phenol-derived compounds.
