Skills:
Skills I used and have experience in the use of FT-NMR, CW-NMR, IR, HPLC, LC, GC-MS, GC, and HPLC-MS, elemental analyzer instruments. My NMR experience includes kinetics, 31P, 13C, 1H and 2D NMR. I have also worked with AA and UV chromatography. My experience includes multi-step organic synthesis of organic compounds with multiple chiral centers. I have experience in dry atmosphere organic techniques, field sampling, and procedure development for analytical labs. I have analytical work experience from the Chino mine labs. I like wet/bench chemistry and feel that a chemist without some wet chemistry is lacking a valuable skill. As the Lab Director at WNMU I had the opportunity to do many types of chemistry and do it a way to excite people from 12 to 90 years old. For ten years I had autonomy over lab choices and subjects to teach. Every year allowed me to choose new and exciting labs for my students. My student employees (work study employees) all said I taught them more chemistry than the tenured faculty. I enjoy teaching people of all ages and I find public speaking a delight. Through out my adult life have had various Lay ministry appointments that have involved teaching, organizing meetings, and directing organizations. I was the vice-president of the South West Michigan Aquarium Society, a club for those who enjoy the breeding of tropical fish and aquatic plants.
