Abstract:
An elbow brace worn by a patient to recuperate an injury to the ulnar nerve or “funny bone. ” The elbow brace includes two arched cuffs facing the same direction, and two struts interconnecting the cuffs. Each strut is formed from a wire of spring steel. A pair of oppositely-wound coiled springs are formed at about the middle of each strut. When worn, the patient's elbow is situated between the spring coils with the struts extending parallel to the arm, and one cuff resting against the mid upper arm and one cuff resting against the mid forearm. Two straps extend from respective coils of one strut to respective coils on the second strut. One strap fits underneath the forearm and the other strap fits underneath the upper arm. Each wire strut may be coated or covered by a tubular sheath or sleeve made of a soft polymer material.

A wrist splint is formed from two rods, preferably parallel and substantially straight, with straps or bands at one end to secure the rods to the wrist and forearm area of the user such that the rods extend over the back (dorsal) side of the wrist and hand. The ends of the rods opposite the straps or bands are bent back along the lengths of the rods and are spaced apart to pass between the middle finger and the adjacent fingers of the wearer with one on each side of the middle finger, and to continue toward the mid-palm. The splint maintains the wrist in a flat, extended position without any fabric covering, or in contact with, the hand of the wearer, and with no restriction on the movement of the thumb or of any of the fingers.

An inflatable pillow is disclosed, as for elevating the hand during a period of healing. A pair of inflatable base chamber sections define an L-shape to engage the human upper limb with elbow flexed at an angle of some 90. degree. A pair of inflatable lateral chamber sections somewhat triangular in profile are affixed at the sides of the L-shaped member for retaining the configuration and providing dimensional cushioning. The interior chambers of the inflatable sections are interconnected, and a flex valve is provided for inflating and deflating the pillow. A pair of strap members bridge the lateral sections to close the pillow about the upper limb. As disclosed, the structure comprises transparent sheet, vinyl-like material.
