Lubricant Formulations For Sheet Metal Processing

US Patent:
2005028, Dec 29, 2005
Filed:
Jun 10, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/150714
Inventors:
David Heenan - Kingston, CA
Krzysztof Januszkiewicz - Inverary, CA
Rejean Lemay - Kingston, CA
Harold Pattemore - Kingston, CA
McKay Brown - Aurora IL, US
International Classification:
C10M137/04
C10M129/74
US Classification:
508430000, 508463000, 508496000, 508501000, 508583000
Abstract:
A lubricant for food, beer or beverage container and container component stock is provided containing, as a conductivity enhancing additive, a phospholipid having a structure of Formula (I): wherein Rand Rare fully saturated fatty acyl radicals derived from saturated fatty acids containing from about 10 to 22 carbon atoms; and Ris selected from the group consisting of choline, salts and mono-salts of Group I and II metals and fatty acid neutralized ethanolamine. Lubricant formulations are also described, comprising 0.5 to 50 wt % fatty acid ester of.propylene glycol, 0.5 to 90 wt % petrolatum and 0.5 to 90 wt % mineral white oil. Finally, a lubricant for metalworking is described, containing as a load-bearing additive, a fatty acid monoester of propylene glycol as given by Formula (II): wherein n is from 7 to 21 and in which the acyl moiety is hydrogenated to maximize saturation.

Apparatus And Method For Processing Container Ends For Controlling Dust

US Patent:
2009017, Jul 16, 2009
Filed:
Jan 14, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/008871
Inventors:
McKay C. Brown - Aurora IL, US
International Classification:
B21D 51/26
B21D 31/06
US Classification:
72 94, 723794
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and apparatus for conditioning metal container ends and for removing particles and accumulated dust. The apparatus, in a preferred form, comprises a minimum of two and preferably three shafts, each shaft being rotatable about a longitudinal axis of rotation and each shaft having a helical groove extending around the shaft at an outer surface thereof. A drive rotates the shafts about their axes of rotation. The shafts are aligned and positioned to receive therebetween container ends introduced into the apparatus from an entrance and convey them to an exit with the peripheries of the container ends engaged in the grooves of the shafts such that rotation of the shafts causes the grooves to release particles from the peripheries. Associated dust removal equipment then removes the particles so that dust is not generated in downstream equipment for the utilization of the container ends.

Score Line Corrosion Protection For Container End Walls

US Patent:
2010022, Sep 9, 2010
Filed:
Jan 28, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/657876
Inventors:
McKay C. Brown - Aurora IL, US
Ian Musson Campbell - Goettingen, DE
David Andrew Gill - Bentleyville OH, US
David S. Wright - Rosdorf, DE
International Classification:
B32B 1/08
B32B 15/01
B32B 15/20
US Classification:
428586, 428654
Abstract:
The invention relates to an end wall of a metal container having a score therein. The end wall is made of a composite metal sheet made of two or more metal layers, one of the layers being made of an aluminum alloy of high strength (e.g. a high magnesium alloy such as AA5182, AA5042 or AA5082, optionally with increased Mg), and another of the layers being made of an aluminum alloy having a good resistance to stress corrosion cracking (e.g. aluminum alloys AA3004, AA3104, AA5006 or AA5005), wherein at least the bottom of the score is formed by a surface of the alloy of good resistance to stress corrosion cracking.

Lightweight Metal Beverage Container

US Patent:
6126034, Oct 3, 2000
Filed:
Feb 17, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/251504
Inventors:

Edmund T. Gillest - Aurora IL
David P. Lieb - Hendersonville TN
Assignee:
Alcan Aluminum Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
B65D 812
US Classification:
220671
Abstract:
Lightweight beverage containers disclosed herein require less metal per container, exhibit less earing and have one or more of the following features: 1) a reduced seam between the can end and the can body, 2) a side wall having vertically disposed alternating portions of relatively thicker and relatively thinner metal, 3) a can end dimensioned to fit within the domed bottom of a vertically adjacent similar can when stacked, 4) a can body produced from an acircular blank dimensioned to produce said can body without ears, and 5) a can body produced from a cup having a variable radius between the side of said cup and the bottom thereof.
