College House Deans Integrated Knowledge Award - Honorable Mention
College House Deans of the University of Pennsylvania
"The mission of the College Houses at Penn is to provide supportive residential communities for undergraduate students. By design, the Houses integrate the intellectual and academic experiences of the conventional classroom with the everyday life – through programming, events, and powerful interactions between faculty, staff, and students. In support of that academic mission, the eleven College House Deans, who serve as chief administrators of these communities, are pleased to announce the second annual College House Deans Integrated Knowledge Award."
Green Fund Grant
University of Pennsylvania Green Campus Partnership
Awarded $50,000 to implement a pilot project replacing paper towels with hand dryers in 20 bathrooms in the Ware College House. After careful analysis, the hand dryers were found to be incredibly energy and cost efficient. If the pilot goes as expected, the entire university will likely phase from paper towels to hand dryers.
The Green Connection
The French Embassy
Started in 2011 by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, the Green Connection program challenges American high school students to think about major environmental issues of the 21st century and then submit individual proposals for local or personal environmental protection initiatives. 10 winners were chosen from around the U.S. to travel to France for 10 days.
