Abstract:
A furnace heat exchanger with multiple parallel flow passages with at least two of the passages being partially formed of a pair of opposed sidewalls having wavy cross-sectional shapes wherein the downstream passage has at least as many and preferably more waves than the upstream pass. The wavy shapes are preferably generally sinusoidal in form with the waves of the two sides being substantially in phase.

Furnace Heat Exchanger

US Patent:
7096933, Aug 29, 2006
Filed:
Oct 24, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/695657
Inventors:
Ninev Karl Zia - Indianapolis IN, US
Shailesh Sharad Manohar - Manlius NY, US

US Classification:
165170, 165146, 126110 R, 126116 R
Abstract:
A furnace heat exchanger with multiple parallel flow passages wherein the last flow passage extends downwardly from its plane as it approaches the outlet so as to result in a lower overall height of the heat exchanger. Preferably both the upper wall and the lower wall of the last passage extend downwardly such that the cross-sectional area of the last flow passage is not reduced and is preferably increased as it approaches the outlet. The bottom wall extension is preferably curvilinear and has substantially the same curvature as a return bend at the inlet of the penultimate flow passage.

Method And Components For Draining And Trapping

US Patent:
2005015, Jul 21, 2005
Filed:
Jan 16, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/758709
Inventors:
Larry Rieke - Zionsville IN, US
Scott Beck - Indianapolis IN, US
International Classification:
F25C001/00
F23B007/00
US Classification:
110349000
Abstract:
The present invention utilizes two specially designed components in the form of a drain tee and a drain tee trap which reduce the chance of vent condensate from entering a furnace inducer. The drain tee includes an integral drain reservoir with a tubing connection for connecting a drain tube when the drain tee trap is not used. The drain tee trap consists of a two-piece sealed trap with a water column pressure trapping capacity and is used in combination with the drain tee.

Condensing Heat Exchanger For Gas Furnaces

US Patent:
2011027, Nov 17, 2011
Filed:
Sep 30, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/894764
Inventors:
Paul M. Haydock - Zionsville IN, US
Scott A. Beck - Indianapolis IN, US
Assignee:
Carrier Corporation - Farmington CT
International Classification:
F28F 3/12
US Classification:
165170, 2989003
Abstract:
A condensing heat exchanger () is disclosed that includes a pair of opposing half shells () connected together. The half shells () define an inlet () at one end and at least one outlet () at an opposing end of the heat exchanger. The pair of opposing half shells () also defines a central axis (). Each half shell () includes a plurality of elongated angled beads () that extend inwardly towards the other half shell. The elongated angled beads () of each half shell () extend traversely across the central axis () at an angle θ with respect to the central axis (). The beads of one half shell () also extend traversely across one or more beads of the other half shell. The half shells () form two side channels () for collecting condensate disposed opposite the plurality of elongated angled beads () from one another and between the inlet () and at least one outlet ().

Furnace Assembly

US Patent:
2012008, Apr 12, 2012
Filed:
Sep 28, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/247440
Inventors:
Scott A. Beck - Indianapolis IN, US
Larry D. Rieke - Zionsville IN, US
Nitu Gupta - Westfield IN, US

Abstract:
A coupling to connect a primary heat exchanger to a condensing heat exchanger of a furnace includes a coupling box extending between a primary heat exchanger and a condensing heat exchanger. The coupling box defines a flow path for flue gas between a primary heat exchanger outlet and a condensing heat exchanger inlet. A tube sheet is located at the condensing heat exchanger inlet and a liner is located at a distance from the tube sheet in the coupling box. The liner and the tube sheet define an insulating liner space therebetween reducing condensation on the liner.

Hinged Blower Access Door With Blower Switch Activation

US Patent:
5322051, Jun 21, 1994
Filed:
Sep 9, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/119039
Inventors:
Randel K. Patterson - Plainfield IN
Allen L. Sherven - Brownsburg IN

Assignee:
Carrier Corporation - Syracuse NY
International Classification:
F24H 302
US Classification:
126110R
Abstract:
A front access door suitable for accessing and enclosing a housing within a multipoise furnace functions in conjunction with a safety shutoff switch to provide greater access and safety when assembling and servicing the furnace. The front access door is hingably supported upon the bottom wall of the housing for removal from the furnace and rotation between a closed position and an opened position. The shutoff switch is mounted outside the housing on the top housing wall. When the access door moves into a closed position, a switch activator, mounted to the access door, passes over the top housing wall and closes the switch, thereby allowing power to flow to a blower within the housing. When the access door is moved into an open position, the switch activator opens the switch, thereby terminating power to the blower.
