Inventors:
Tri D. Tran - Fountain Valley CA, US
Ronaldo Cayabyab - Mission Viejo CA, US
David J. Evans - Irvine CA, US
Sean Chow - Tustin CA, US
Christopher Chia - Irvine CA, US
Assignee:
EDWARDS LIFESCIENCES CORPORATION - Irvine CA
International Classification:
A61F 2/24
US Classification:
623 211
Abstract:
Described herein are systems and methods from delivering prosthetic devices, such as prosthetic heart valves, through the body and into the heart for implantation therein. The prosthetic devices delivered with the delivery systems disclosed herein are, for example, radially expandable from a radially compressed state mounted on the delivery system to a radially expanded state for implantation using an inflatable balloon of the delivery system. Exemplary delivery routes through the body and into the heart include transfemoral routes, transapical routes, and transaortic routes, among others.

Flow Directed Catheter

US Patent:
6171296, Jan 9, 2001
Filed:
Apr 28, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/066861
Inventors:
Sean L. Chow - Tustin CA
Assignee:
MicroTherapeutics, Inc. - San Clemente CA
International Classification:
A61M 2500
US Classification:
604525
Abstract:
A flow directed microcatheter is formed having a gradually changing flexibility and diameter between a proximal end and a distal end of the microcatheter. The changing properties of the microcatheter according to the present invention provide the flexibility of the distal tip needed to allow the microcatheter to be directed by the flow of blood within the vasculature, and the columnar strength and torquability at the proximal end and along the length of the microcatheter needed to advance and direct the distal tip to the target site. A proximal segment of the microcatheter includes a plurality of strands which vary in diameter to change the flexibility of the microcatheter. A distal segment of the microcatheter includes an inner layer which is compatible with solvents, such as DMSO, and an outer layer which provides strength and flexibility. The proximal segment and the distal segment of the microcatheter are joined by a kink resistant fuse joint.

Filed:
Dec 12, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/734201
Inventors:
Sean L. Chow - Tustin CA

Single Segment Microcatheter

US Patent:
5976120, Nov 2, 1999
Filed:
Mar 26, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/048007
Inventors:
Sean L. Chow - Tustin CA
Donald J. Kolehmainen - Orange CA
George Robert Green - Costa Mesa CA
Assignee:
Micro Therapeutics, Inc. - Irvine CA
International Classification:
A61M 2500
US Classification:
604525
Abstract:
A single segment catheter has a gradually changing flexibility from a distal to a proximal end of the catheter. According to one embodiment the catheter includes a plurality of strands within the catheter tube wall which change in diameter between the distal and proximal ends to achieve a catheter having a more flexible distal end and a continuously changing flexibility along the catheter length with no joints or distinct changes in flexibility.

Valve Anchor And Installation Method

US Patent:
2021028, Sep 16, 2021
Filed:
May 28, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/334464
Inventors:
- Irvine CA, US
Sean Chow - Tustin CA, US
Jenny Nguyen - Huntington Beach CA, US
Emil Karapetian - Huntington Beach CA, US
Tri D. Tran - Fountain Valley CA, US
International Classification:
A61F 2/24
Abstract:
Anchor devices and methods used to secure a prosthetic valve to a native valve annulus are described. The anchor device can be a separate expandable element from the prosthetic valve that is first advanced to the annulus and deployed, after which an expandable prosthetic valve is advanced to within the annulus and deployed. The combination of the two elements can apply a clamping force to the valve leaflets which holds the prosthetic valve in place. The anchor device can have a lower or ventricular portion and an upper or atrial portion. The anchor device can include one or more leaflet clamping portions. One, two, or more upstanding vertical posts between the clamping portions can extend upward at the valve commissures and support the upper portion, which can include one or more structures for leak prevention.

Tamir S. Levi - Zikhron Yaakov, IL
International Classification:
A61F 2/24
Abstract:
A prosthetic heart valve includes a frame having an inflow end and an outflow end, and defining a longitudinal axis. The prosthetic heart valve further includes a leaflet structure situated at least partially within the frame, and a covering disposed around the frame. The covering includes a first woven portion extending circumferentially around the frame and including a plurality of texturized strands or yarns extending along the longitudinal axis of the frame. The covering further includes a second woven portion extending circumferentially around the frame and spaced apart from the first woven portion along the longitudinal axis of the frame. The texturized strands extend along the longitudinal axis of the frame from the first woven portion to the second woven portion and form a floating portion between the first woven portion and the second woven portion.

Steerable Catheter With Multiple Pull Wires

US Patent:
2021000, Jan 7, 2021
Filed:
Sep 21, 2020
Appl. No.:
17/026644
Inventors:
- Irvine CA, US
Sean Chow - Tustin CA, US
Ronaldo C. Cayabyab - Mission Viejo CA, US
Assignee:
Edwards Lifesciences Corporation - Irvine CA
International Classification:
A61M 25/01
A61F 2/24
A61M 25/00
Abstract:
In one representative embodiment, a steerable catheter device comprises a shaft comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion, and first and second pull wires having respective proximal portions and respective distal portions. The proximal portions of the first and second pull wires extend through the proximal portion of the shaft in close proximity to each other. The distal portions of the first and second pull wires extend through the distal portion of the shaft in close proximity to each other over a first distance defining a primary flexing section, diverge away from each other over a second distance, and then extend parallel to each other at angularly spaced locations over a third distance defining a secondary flexing section.
