Biosolids-Based Food Additive And Food Material For Animal Food And Methods Of Production And Use Thereof

US Patent:
2003023, Dec 18, 2003
Filed:
Jun 11, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/458930
Inventors:
Seth Terry - Denver CO, US
Andrew Logan - Denver CO, US
International Classification:
A01K001/00
US Classification:
426/002000
Abstract:
This invention involves a composition for feeding animals, where the composition is produced in a wastewater treatment operation. Waterborne organic materials in the wastewater stream are metabolized by microorganisms resulting in the formation of a biosolids mass comprised of microorganisms. This biosolids mass is then used as a food source for animals. This food material may be further supplemented by adding other components to enhance its nutritional qualities. The wastewater stream containing the waterborne organic materials may be part of, for example, a food processing plant or a microbiologically-based pharmaceutical product manufacturing facility. The invention includes a food material for animals as well as methods of producing this food material and of feeding animals with this food material. The invention further includes the feeding of an organic fertilizer or an organic soil amendment to animals.

Biosolids-Based Food Additive For Animal Feed, Methods Of Production, And Business Application Thereof

US Patent:
2009011, May 7, 2009
Filed:
Oct 31, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/262971
Inventors:
Andrew J. Logan - Denver CO, US
Seth Sprague Terry - Englewood CO, US
Randy Swenson - Englewood CO, US
International Classification:
B01D 21/30
A23J 3/00
C02F 3/34
US Classification:
210744, 426 7, 426 61, 210138
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to processes and business methods and wastewater treatment units for converting the waterborne residuals from wastewater generated by food processing plants into an ingredient suitable for use in animal feeds. The ingredient produced by the processes of the present invention has a high protein content and can be used as a replacement for conventional sources of animal feed protein such as fish meal.

Resource Recovery Method For Simultaneous Production Of Microbial Ingredient And Treated Water Products

US Patent:
2020037, Dec 3, 2020
Filed:
Aug 19, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/997429
Inventors:
- Shanghai, CN
Seth Sprague Terry - Englewood CO, US
Mark Duane Rottmann - Furlong PA, US
Jianhua Song - Shanghai, CN
International Classification:
C12N 1/20
A23K 10/18
A23K 50/80
C02F 3/02
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a method for producing a nutritional microbial solids product while simultaneously producing clean water for multiples uses. The microbial solids product represents a form of single cell protein (SCP) that finds application most typically in formulated animal feeds, but may also be used in food, fertilizer, or soil amendment products. The treated water product can be used directly or polished further for subsequent industrial or agricultural use, including aquaculture and irrigation. The process described utilizes low-value by-products of industrial production for biochemical conversion into SCP. The by-products most suitable to this approach have high organic content that otherwise makes them difficult to dispose of responsibly via traditional methods such as biological wastewater treatment.

Methods Of Processing Waste Activated Sludge

US Patent:
2015016, Jun 18, 2015
Filed:
Sep 2, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/475455
Inventors:
- Glendale CO, US
Leo GINGRAS - Kinder LA, US
Seth TERRY - Englewood CO, US
International Classification:
A23J 1/00
C02F 11/02
Abstract:
Methods for processing waste activated sludge obtainable from wastewater plants. The methods herein are useful in that they provide novel waste activated sludge preparations that are substantially free of live microbial organisms and contain a high content of digestible protein.
