The character includes a body having a torso casing containing an electric motor and multiple gears, a head-piece capable of making side-to-side nodding motions, and multiple lever members provided on opposite sides of the casing and pivotably connected together so as to produce the repeated standing motions of the character from a sitting position. Operation of the character is controlled by an electric circuit which is operated either manually or from a light-sensitive switch which can sense motion of any nearby moving object or person and activate movements of the character.

A pyrogenic oxide is grown on a silicon wafer in a furnace by oxidizing hydrogen in the presence of an excess amount of oxygen as well as anhydrous hydrogen chloride to produce steam within the furnace. After growing a suitable pyrogenic oxide layer, the hydrogen and hydrogen chloride flows are turned off while the oxygen flow is continued to grow a dry oxide. A nitrogen anneal while the wafer is slowly pulled from the furnace completes the hybrid, radiation hard oxide layer.

A drapery-supporting system where a track has a front portion supporting a plurality of carriers one of which is a master carrier, the track having a rear cord portion receiving part of the master carrier which is guided for movement along the rear cord portion. A control cord which extends along the rear cord portion is connected to the master carrier and extends around pulleys at the end of the track so that by moving the cord the master carrier can be moved along the track. An elongated flexible cord interconnects all of the carriers, and one of the carriers is an end carrier which is fixed so that by moving the control cord connected to the master carrier a drape supported by the carriers can be moved between open and closed positions. At the end of the track where the end carrier is located, a pulley assembly is provided for the control cord and has a swingable gate enabling carriers to be introduced into and removed from the track with the end carrier held stationary by this gate.
