Drilling Wells In Compartmentalized Reservoirs

US Patent:
2011006, Mar 17, 2011
Filed:
Apr 23, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/993164
Inventors:
Oliver C. Mullins - Ridgefield CT, US
Shahid A. Haq - Sugar Land TX, US
International Classification:
E21B 49/00
E21B 7/00
US Classification:
175 50, 175 57
Abstract:
Method of drilling a well, including one method comprising determining a first value indicative of a relative position of a geological bed boundary with respect to a drilling assembly, determining a second value indicative of an optical property of a formation fluid proximate the drilling assembly, and controlling a well trajectory based on the first and second value.

Identifying A Trajectory For Drilling A Well Cross Reference To Related Application

US Patent:
2010028, Nov 11, 2010
Filed:
Apr 30, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/771230
Inventors:
Lucian K. Johnston - Sugar Land TX, US
Shahid Azizul Haq - Sugar Land TX, US
Assignee:
Schlumberger Technology Center - Sugar Land TX
International Classification:
E21B 44/00
G06G 7/57
E21B 47/02
E21B 7/04
US Classification:
175 24, 703 10, 175 45
Abstract:
To control well drilling, information relating to a trajectory of a well is received, and fluid flow in the well is simulated according to the received information. Simulating the fluid production comprises simulating production flow assurance that seeks to reduce occurrence of mixtures of different types of fluids that reduce production of a target fluid. In response to results of the simulating, a further trajectory for further drilling of the well is identified.

Methods And Computing Systems For Processing And Transforming Collected Data To Improve Drilling Productivity

US Patent:
2016021, Jul 28, 2016
Filed:
Dec 31, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/986543
Inventors:
- Houston TX, US
Wentao Zhou - Abingdon, GB
Shahid Azizul Haq - Sugar Land TX, US
International Classification:
E21B 44/02
G05B 15/02
E21B 41/00
E21B 7/06
E21B 49/00
Abstract:
Fluid data collected while drilling a wellbore in a drilling operation that includes a first well trajectory is received. A first productivity metric for a next section of the wellbore on a continued trajectory of the first well section trajectory is determined, based at least in part on the fluid data. A second well section trajectory for the next section of the wellbore different from the continued trajectory of the first well section trajectory is determined. A second productivity metric for the second well trajectory is determined. The drilling operation is adjusted if the first productivity index differs from the second productivity index by more than a threshold amount
