Implement Convertible Between Use Configuration And Transport Configuration

US Patent:
2006009, May 4, 2006
Filed:
Jul 20, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/185441
Inventors:
Shane Houck - Pennville IN, US
International Classification:
A01B 51/00
US Classification:
172272000
Abstract:
The present forwardly-folding implement includes a telescoping tongue assembly, a main frame, a folding frame assembly, a rear frame assembly, left and right wing frame assemblies, and a readily replaceable toolbar assembly. The folding frame assembly is pivotally attached to the tongue assembly and to the left and right wing frame assemblies. The wing frame assemblies pivot vertically and horizontally from the rear frame assembly and optionally include powered wheel mechanisms or assist assemblies, which hydraulically pivot components of the instant implement between transport and operational configurations. When the present implement is being configured for transport, the tongue assembly is extended as the folding frame assembly and left and right wing frame assemblies are folded generally transversely to the rear frame assembly. Then, the wheel mechanisms are pivoted upwardly so that outboard portions of the wing frame assemblies are totally supported by the folding frame assembly.

Implement Convertible Between A Use Position And A Transport Position

US Patent:
5579849, Dec 3, 1996
Filed:
Feb 13, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/387600
Inventors:
Shane A. Houck - Pennville IN
International Classification:
A01B 1900
A01B 6332
US Classification:
172456
Abstract:
A hitchable and towable implement that is suitable for the attachment of various agricultural tooling and that is convertible between a laterally expanded use position and a laterally narrow transport position. The implement has a wheeled lower center section connectable to a towing tractor by an elongate tongue member. An upper center frame section rotates on the lower center section. Powered and hinged lift arms extend in opposite directions from the upper center section and attach to a pair of wing sections for raising and lowering the wing sections. The wing sections rotate with the lift arms and the upper center section about the lower center section. Rotation of the upper center section one quarter turn swings the wing sections between a lateral position with respect to the lower center frame section and the transport position in which the wing sections are fore and aft of the lower center section. In the use position, lift arms and wing sections are laterally positioned and lowered. The lower center section and wing sections each have attachment bars extending horizontally for the attachment of desired tooling.

Implement Hitch For Planting And Transport

US Patent:
5265898, Nov 30, 1993
Filed:
Sep 1, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/938762
Inventors:
Shane A. Houck - Pennville IN
International Classification:
B62D 5300
US Classification:
280413
Abstract:
Hitching apparatus for pulling a pair of grain drills behind a tractor, alternately in field position wherein the grain drills are in side-by-side and substantially aligned relation with each other, and transport position wherein the grain drills are arranged one behind the other in tandem relation, a pull pole swingably secured to a side portion of the front frame of the first grain drill and swingable between a transport position wherein the front end of the pull pole is aligned forwardly of the central portion of the first grain drill, and a latch mechanism retaining the pull pole in said transport position; and the pull pole being swingable to the field or planting position wherein the front end of the pull pole is substantially aligned with the adjoining side portions of the two grain drills and is retained by the latching mechanism; a swing arm pulling the second grain drill and extending transversely from the pull pole and the front frame of the first grain drill in field position and being retained by the latch mechanism; and the swing arm being swingably attached to the side portion of the first grain drill to swing behind the first grain drill as to locate the second grain drill behind and in tandem relation with the first grain drill in transport position, and a latching mechanism retaining the swing arm in said transport position.

Depth Control For A Seed Planting System

US Patent:
2015023, Aug 20, 2015
Filed:
Feb 17, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/623758
Inventors:
Shane HOUCK - Pennville IN, US
International Classification:
A01B 63/28
A01B 49/06
A01C 5/06
Abstract:
A planting system including a plurality of seeding row assemblies, each having components maintained at a controlled elevation. The seeding row assembly includes a tillage row unit controlled to maintain a desired elevation relative to a seeding row unit, the seeding row unit being configured to passively follow the local terrain. Each seeding row assembly can include two position sensors that generate signals corresponding to the elevation of the seeding row unit and the ground engagement attachment, respectively, or a differential position sensor that generates signals corresponding to the difference in the elevations. Various embodiments include a local closed loop controller that adjusts elevation of the tillage row unit relative to the seeding row unit to a desired set point. In some embodiments, the down force of the seeding row unit is actively controlled.
