Abstract:
Embodiments determine models that predict release profiles of substances from material matrices. An embodiment constructs a simulation model of a release system based on experimental data such as imaging and determines a model predicting a release profile through use of an iterative process. The process iterates: (i) modifying parameters of the constructed simulation model based upon release system mechanistic characteristic data to correct a transport coefficient of the release system and (ii) performing a simulation of the release system using the constructed simulation model with the modified parameters to generate a simulation-based release profile, until a given simulation-based release profile that matches the release system characteristic data is identified. The constructed simulation model with the modified parameters used to generate the matching simulation-based release profile is set as the model predicting the release profile of the substance from the material matrix.

Abstract:
A method using high resolution imaging data, artificial intelligence-based quantitative image analytics, and image-based release prediction is disclosed to facilitate the determination of microstructure equivalence between two representative samples, such as pharmaceutical and material products. A computer-implemented method of evaluating microstructural equivalence of samples includes quantitatively comparing corresponding parameters of microstructure feature matrices, such as parameters for particle size distribution, porosity, uniformity of spatial distribution, and release rate of a material phase, to permit evaluating whether the samples meet a microstructural equivalence standard within an error tolerance.

Abstract:
A method for computing physical properties of materials, such as two-phase and three-phase relative permeabilities through a porous material, is described. The method employs single or multi-scale digital images of a representative sample which capture one or multiple fractionations of a micro-structure size cascade at the respective, required imaging resolutions. At a high resolution, the method computes basic physical properties, such as absolute permeabilities with a numerical method such as computational fluid dynamics solving the Navier-Stokes equation, and capillary pressure with simulations solving Young-Laplace equation. Saturation states of multiple fluids are combined to derive capillary pressure relationships at low resolutions when necessary. Upscaled physical properties, such as upscaled relative permeabilities corresponding to the low resolutions, are subsequently computed using the composition of multiple permeable facies at corresponding upscaled saturations determined by upscaled capillary pressure, honoring upscaled governing laws of the physical property, such as Darcy's law.
