Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for updating a software program through base image patching. In an exemplary method for base image patching, the method includes receiving a patch, retrieving a base image, wherein the base image corresponds to a base version of a software program, and combining the base image with the patch to create an updated program. In another exemplary method, the method includes receiving an updating patch, wherein the updating patch is used to create an updated software program, retrieving a patch from a repository, wherein the patch is a previous update to a stored program, distilling a base image of the stored program using the previous patch, combining the base image with the updating patch to create an updated program, and replacing the stored program with the updated program.

Abstract:
A method for specialized processing of data in a port-extended network comprises receiving, by the control node of the port-extended network, a data frame that includes, at a first field of the data frame, information indicative of an incoming port at which the data frame was received, the first field having been inserted by a satellite node associated with the port. The method also comprises determining that one or more packets of a frame require specialized processing, and replacing the information contained in the first field with information indicative of the specialized processing. The method further comprises replacing information contained in a second field with information indicative of an outgoing port of a second satellite node of the port-extended network. A modified data frame is transmitted onto the port-extended network, the modified data frame that includes the information indicative of the specialized processing in the first field.

Abstract:
According to an aspect of an embodiment, a method of retrieving data in a storage network may include determining a list of storage blocks of a storage network for potential retrieval of a data file for storage on a first storage block of the storage network. The determining may be based on two or more of: assignment information of the data file as assigned by a storage network manager, location information, device types, peer-to-peer reachability, network information, and presence information. The method may also include attempting to retrieve the data file from a second storage block included in the list of storage blocks for storage on the first storage block. Further, the method may include attempting to retrieve the data file from a third storage block included in the list of storage blocks for storage on the first storage block when retrieval from the second storage block fails.
