Handheld Computing Device

US Patent:
7515431, Apr 7, 2009
Filed:
Jul 2, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/884172
Inventors:
Stephen Paul Zadesky - San Carlos CA, US
Stephen Brian Lynch - Alamo CA, US
Assignee:
Apple Inc. - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
H05K 5/00
US Classification:
361752, 361741, 361748, 361625, 361616, 361796, 361802, 361817, 361815
Abstract:
A handheld computing device is disclosed. The handheld computing device includes a seamless enclosure formed from an extruded tube. The extruded tube includes open ends and internal rails which serve as a guide for slidably assembling an operational assembly through the open ends of the extruded tube, a reference surface for positioning the operational assembly relative to an access opening in the seamless enclosure, and a support structure for supporting the operational assembly during use.

Electrical Connector With Flexible Interconnect

US Patent:
7544066, Jun 9, 2009
Filed:
Jun 6, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/135013
Inventors:
Stephen Brian Lynch - Alamo CA, US
Jason Sloey - San Jose CA, US
Cameron Frazier - San Carlos CA, US
Mathias Schmidt - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Apple Inc. - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
H01R 12/00
US Classification:
439 77, 439496
Abstract:
An electrical connector that utilizes a flexible substrate for providing electrical contact surfaces within the electrical connector is disclosed. Advantageously, the electrical contact surfaces can be precisely formed on the flexible substrate such that manual assembly of individual contacts (e. g. , pins) for a connector can be avoided. In one embodiment, the flexible substrate also facilitates connection of the electrical connector to other electrical components, such as other substrates, integrated circuits, etc. , without having to solder leads or pins of a connector to a printed circuit board. In one implementation, the flexible substrate can be integrally formed with a system substrate.

Electrical Components Coupled To Circuit Boards

US Patent:
7660127, Feb 9, 2010
Filed:
Sep 11, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/519388
Inventors:
Douglas Joseph Weber - Arcadia CA, US
Pinida Jan Moolsintong - St. Louis MO, US
Robert Sean Murphy - Sunnyvale CA, US
Stephen Brian Lynch - San Francisco CA, US
Assignee:
Apple Inc. - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
H05K 5/00
US Classification:
361752, 361800, 361805
Abstract:
The present invention can facilitate the coupling between electrical components and a circuit board after the circuit board is inserted into a housing of an electronic device. An electrical component can be integrated with a flexible circuit of another electrical component. The flexible circuit can be electrically and mechanically coupled to the circuit board after the circuit board is inserted into the housing. Alternatively, electrical contacts can be disposed on a body of the electrical component and a complementary set of electrical contacts can be disposed on the circuit board. When the circuit board is disposed within a receptacle of the electrical component, the electrical contacts on the electrical component are coupled directly to the electrical contacts on the circuit board.
