Electrical Insulation

US Patent:
4521485, Jun 4, 1985
Filed:
Sep 27, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/536919
Inventors:
Stephen L. Tondre - Menlo Park CA
Hans E. Lunk - Fremont CA
Assignee:
Raychem Corporation - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
B32B 1500
H01B 700
US Classification:
428383
Abstract:
Electrical insulation comprises (1) an inner layer of a cross-linked polymer, e. g. polyethylene, an ethylene/tetrafluoroethylene copolymer, an ethylene/chlorotrifluoroethylene polymer or a vinylidene fluoride polymer, and (2) an outer layer of an aromatic polymer having a glass transition temperature of at least 100. degree. C. , e. g. a polyether ether ketone, a polyether ketone or a polyether sulfone. Such insulation combines excellent properties under normal service conditions with low smoke evolution on burning, and is therefore particularly useful for aircraft wire and cable.

Stabilized Polymeric Compositions

US Patent:
5248713, Sep 28, 1993
Filed:
Jun 13, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/537558
Inventors:
Hans E. Lunk - Menlo Park CA
Timothy S. Smith - Nr. Trowbridge, GB2
Stephen L. Tondre - Fremont CA
Alan S. Yeung - Redwood City CA
Assignee:
Raychem Corporation - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
C08K 549
US Classification:
524120
Abstract:
Compositions containing at least about 30% of a poly(alkylene terephthalate), at least about 3% of a polylactone, about 0. 05% to about 10% of a carbodiimide and at least about 0. 05% to about 10% of an aliphatic phosphite, all percentages being by weight based on the weight of the composition, has excellent thermal stability. The compositions are useful for wire insulation and cable jacketing. Heat recoverable articles, such as tubing and molded parts can be prepared from the compositions.

Insulated Electrical Conductors

US Patent:
6087591, Jul 11, 2000
Filed:
Jul 31, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/690092
Inventors:
Phu D. Nguyen - San Jose CA
Ismael L. Sandoval - Tracy CA
Stephen L. Tondre - Fremont CA
Alan S. Yeung - Redwood City CA
International Classification:
H01B 700
US Classification:
174110R
Abstract:
Polymeric compositions which contain a thermoplastic aromatic polyester, preferably polybutylene terephthalate, and a polyester block copolymer having a recrystallization temperature greater than 150. degree. C. , preferably a thermoplastic elastomer containing aromatic polyester blocks and aliphatic polyester blocks. The ratio of the block copolymer to the aromatic polyester is 0. 05:1 to 0. 35:1, preferably 0. 15:1 to 0. 30:1. These compositions are particularly useful as the insulation on hermetic lead wires for use in refrigerant systems. To prevent cracking of such insulation when it is contacted by a varnish used to provide hermetic sealing, it can be covered by a thin layer of a fluoropolymer.

Electrical Insulation

US Patent:
4678709, Jul 7, 1987
Filed:
May 28, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/738622
Inventors:
Stephen L. Tondre - Menlo Park CA
Hans E. Lunk - Fremont CA
Assignee:
Raychem Corporation - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
B32B 1508
H01B 700
US Classification:
428380
Abstract:
Electrical insulation comprises (1) an inner layer of a cross-linked polymer, e. g. polyethylene, an ethylene/tetrafluoroethylene copolymer, an ethylene/chlorotrifluoroethylene polymer or a vinylidene fluoride polymer, and (2) an outer layer of an aromatic polymer having a glass transition temperature of at least 100. degree. Polyester Compositions

US Patent:
5908887, Jun 1, 1999
Filed:
Jul 14, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/275174
Inventors:
Stephen L. Tondre - Fremont CA
Alan S. Yeung - Redwood City CA
Viktors Jansons - Los Gatos CA
Assignee:
Raychem Corporation - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
C08K 504
C08K 332
C08K 318
B32B 1508
US Classification:
524399
Abstract:
Novel polyester compositions, particularly suitable for the insulation of wires, contain an aromatic polyester, especially polybutylene terephthalate. The presence of certain tin (II) compounds, for example tin (II) oxide, oxalate, phthalate, pyromellitate, or phosphite, reduces the flammability and smoke generation of such compositions. The presence of an aliphatic polyester, and optionally a thermoplastic elastomer, can also improve the properties of such compositions.

Anti-Scale Electrochemical Apparatus With Water-Splitting Ion Exchange Membrane

US Patent:
2016019, Jul 7, 2016
Filed:
Dec 29, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/983451
Inventors:
- San Carlos CA, US
Dennis Menchung Kwok - San Mateo CA, US
Eric David Nyberg - San Carlos CA, US
Stephen Leroy Tondre - Fremont CA, US
Assignee:
PIONETICS CORPORATION - San Carlos CA
International Classification:
C02F 1/469
B01D 69/04
Abstract:
An anti-scale electrochemical apparatus comprises at least one ion exchange cell, each cell comprising a housing having a plurality of openings to receive and release a water stream, inner and outer electrodes in the housing, and a water-splitting membrane between the inner and outer electrodes to treat an influent water stream to form an effluent water stream. A controlled-release scale-inhibitor composite comprising a scale-inhibitor agent and a polymer, is provided in the housing or in the water flow pathway of the electrochemical apparatus. An anti-scale, water splitting ion exchange membrane was also fabricated.
