System And Method For Supporting A Plurality Of Media Conferences

US Patent:
6606306, Aug 12, 2003
Filed:
Dec 15, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/465235
Inventors:
Tien-Yi Lin - Fremont CA
Steven Chow - San Carlos CA
Joseph C. Harrow - San Ramon CA
Ken J. Ju - Cupertino CA
Son H. P. Le - Cupertino CA
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
H04L 1216
US Classification:
370261, 370259, 379202, 379201, 348 15
Abstract:
A device for supporting a plurality of media conferences includes digital signal processors (DSPs) and a system resource management (SRM) module coupled to the DSPs. Each DSP receives input data packets from conference participants and processes the input data packets to generate output data packets. Each DSP determines whether the media conference is set to an active mode and communicates the output data packets to the conference participants in response to determining that the media conference is set to the active mode. The SRM module allocates a media conference to a first DSP and a second DSP and sets the media conference to the active mode in the first DSP and a stand-by mode in the second DSP. The first DSP communicates output data packets associated with the media conference in response to the SRM module setting the media conference to the active mode in the first DSP. The SRM module sets the media conference to the active mode in the second DSP and de-allocates the media conference from the first DSP, and the second DSP communicates output data packets associated with the media conference in response to the SRM module setting the media conference to the active mode in the second DSP.

The SRM module may migrate a media conference from a first DSP to a second DSP.

Ringing Slic Fault Handling

US Patent:
6813340, Nov 2, 2004
Filed:
Nov 28, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/723678
Inventors:
Michael Issaa - Campbell CA
Steven Chow - San Carlos CA
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
H04M 124
US Classification:
379 31, 379 22, 379 2203, 379 24, 379 2701, 379377, 37939501, 37939901, 379413, 37941301
Abstract:
A line card or other telephone or communications interface provided with a ringing SLIC outputs relatively high voltage, such as in excess of about 90 volts, and/or relatively high current such as in excess of about 20 milliamps during normal use, but decreases the voltage or current of a ringing signal or other signal upon occurrence of a tip and/or ring line fault or other abnormal condition. The abnormal condition is detected by measuring voltage and/or current on the tip line and/or ring line. In response to an excess voltage or current, the ringing current or other output current is reduced to achieve desired safety and/or compliance with standards.

System And Method For Active Filtering In A Telecommunications Network

US Patent:
6829336, Dec 7, 2004
Filed:
May 30, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/580798
Inventors:
Michael A. Issaa - San Bruno CA
Steven Chow - San Carlos CA
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
H04M 1106
US Classification:
379 9305, 370488
Abstract:
A filtering device ( ) for active filtering at a customer premises includes an input interface that receives telephone signals and digital data signals communicated from a central office ( ) using a telephone line ( ). The filtering device ( ) further includes an active low-pass filter ( ) that receives the telephone signals, the digital data signals, and electrical power from a power source. The active low-pass filter ( ) attenuates the digital data signals and passes the telephone signals using the electrical power. The filtering device ( ) also includes an output interface that receives the telephone signals from the active low-pass filter ( ) and communicates the telephone signals to a telephone ( ).

Time Division Multiplexing Method And Apparatus For Asynchronous Data Stream

US Patent:
6876678, Apr 5, 2005
Filed:
Feb 4, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/244361
Inventors:
Steven Chow - San Carlos CA, US
Jicheng Ye - Cupertino CA, US
Wen Huang - Cupertino CA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
H04J003/02
H04L012/66
US Classification:
370538, 370463, 370493
Abstract:
A Serial Communications Controller (SCC) is configured to provide TDM multiplexing of signals regardless of whether such signals are synchronous or asynchronous signals. When an asynchronous signal is detected, the data rate of the asynchronous signal is automatically measured. The two data streams are buffered, e. g. , by FIFOs. Data is clocked-out from the FIFOs into periods of a TDM signal which has a period at least twice that of the faster of the two input signals. In one embodiment alternate periods of the TDM signal are used for the first and second input signals. Bits from the slower of the two input signals are repeated a sufficient number of times, in the TDM signal, that ratio of the rate at which new data bits from the second signal are placed into the TDM signal, to the rate of output of bits from the first stream onto the TDM signal equals (on average) the ratio of the data rates of the first and second input streams. When the ratio of the data rates of the input streams is non-integral, the number of times the bits from the second or slower data stream are repeated, is dithered to keep accumulated skew of data rates in the TDM signal less than a predetermined threshold, such as the duration of a TDM period.
