Color Control Of A Web Printing Press Utilizing Intra-Image Color Measurements

US Patent:
2006017, Aug 3, 2006
Filed:
Jan 25, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/338966
Inventors:
Steven Headley - Arlington TX, US
David Brydges - Vaxholm, SE
International Classification:
G03F 3/08
US Classification:
358518000
Abstract:
Accurate on-line color control for a printing press can be obtained using intra-image color control. A concurrent spectrophotometer and imaging system can capture spectral reflectance data from predetermined measurement areas for each ink key zone of the press. The spectral reflectance data can be compared to target reflectance values in the same standard color space, and a determination can be made as to whether the differences between the measured and target values exceed predetermined tolerances. If the differences exceed these tolerances, a necessary adjustment to the appropriate ink key can be calculated to bring the color differences back to within tolerance. This approach is particularly beneficial in web offset printing, where the printed image is constantly moving and the press conditions are particularly variable.

Conveying Apparatus With An Imaging Backing Surface

US Patent:
2013000, Jan 3, 2013
Filed:
Dec 12, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/323215
Inventors:
STEVEN C. HEADLEY - Arlington TX, US
Alan M. Then - Plano TX, US
Rui Xu - Plano TX, US
Mark Rasmussen - Sulphur Springs TX, US
Assignee:
ADVANCED VISION TECHNOLOGY (A.V.T.) LTD - Hod Hasharon IL
International Classification:
G01J 3/46
B08B 7/00
G01R 27/26
G01B 11/28
G01N 29/00
US Classification:
356402, 356630, 73632, 324658, 134105
Abstract:
A conveying apparatus for conveying an object, the object having at least a non-opaque portion, including a light source, an optical detector and a backing measurement apparatus, the light source for illuminating the object, the optical detector for acquiring information at least relating to at least one chromatic characteristic of the non-opaque portion, the backing measurement apparatus including a backing material, a backing support and a plurality of rollers, the backing material exhibiting at least one of determined chromatic characteristics and determined optical characteristics, the backing support for supporting the backing material, the plurality of rollers for rolling the backing material over the backing support, wherein light emitted by the light source optically interacts with the backing material consistently through the non-opaque portion.

Downhole Triggering Device

US Patent:
5908365, Jun 1, 1999
Filed:
Feb 5, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/794974
Inventors:
Craig C. LaJaunie - Centerville LA
Steven C. Headley - Arlington TX
Assignee:
Preeminent Energy Services, Inc. - Broussard LA
International Classification:
E21B 431185
US Classification:
475 456
Abstract:
A self-contained tool incorporates an electronic system for significantly reducing the number of batteries required to detonate an explosive downhole, making the tool short enough for transport by helicopter, rather than by boat, to an offshore well. This shortness is further beneficial for negotiating tight-radius bends in deviated wells. Safety is improved by a shear pin holding a pressure-activated switch in an open position until sufficient pressure shears the shear pin. Control from the surface is provided in applications where fluid pressure is controlled at the surface and raised to shear the shear pin. Longer run-in time is better accommodated by the combination of the electronic system and the shear pin.

System And Method For Controlling Color Characteristics Of A Printed Image

US Patent:
2019024, Aug 8, 2019
Filed:
Sep 7, 2017
Appl. No.:
16/333183
Inventors:
- Hod Hasharon, IL
Alan THEN - Dallas TX, US
Steven HEADLEY - Arlington TX, US
Chanan GAZALA - Kfar Saba, IL
International Classification:
B41F 7/02
B41F 33/00
Abstract:
A method controls the color in a printing press, which includes at least one printing station printing a respective color design. The method includes the procedures of determining a control factor to color model, printing a design on a web and acquiring color characteristics corresponding to the printed design on the web. The method further includes the procedures of determining the color quality of the printed color design and determining a required change to at least one control factor when a correction to the color characteristics of the printed design is required. The change to at least one control factor is determined by determining the at least one control factor with respective color related information, which results in a reference color characteristic, according to the control factor to color model. The method returns to the procedure of printing when a correction is not required.

Color Measurement System Including Lateral Moving Measurment Carraige

US Patent:
2014032, Oct 30, 2014
Filed:
Apr 24, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/260829
Inventors:
- Hod Hasharon, IL
Steven HEADLEY - Arlington TX, US
Mark RASMUSSEN - Sulphur Springs TX, US
Rui XU - Plano TX, US
International Classification:
G01N 21/25
US Classification:
356402
Abstract:
A color measurement system laterally determines chromatic characteristics of a printed substrate. A measurement carriage includes a measurement head for laterally moving across the printed substrate and a measurement magnetic coupler slidably mounts onto a measurement rail positioned on a first side of the printed substrate. A backing carriage includes backing surface(s) and backing magnetic coupler(s). Each backing magnetic coupler is associated with a respective backing surface. Each backing magnetic coupler can be coupled with the measurement magnetic coupler for coupling the measurement carriage with the backing carriage. The backing carriage slidably mounts onto a backing rail positioned on a second opposite side of the printed substrate. The measurement carriage or backing carriage includes a motor for moving across a respective measurement rail or backing rail. Another measurement carriage and backing carriage move across another measurement rail and backing rail by coupling with the first measurement carriage and backing carriage.
