Method Of Detecting Wireless Network Faults

US Patent:
8218477, Jul 10, 2012
Filed:
Mar 31, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/095011
Inventors:
Sudarshan A. Rao - Highland Park NJ, US
Assignee:
Alcatel Lucent - Paris
International Classification:
H04Q 7/00
US Classification:
370328, 370331, 370332, 370333, 370334, 455429, 455440, 455446, 455449, 455453
Abstract:
A wireless communication system includes the ability to determine that a fault condition associated with at least a portion of a cell associated with a base station is likely. Disclosed examples include using information regarding call activity levels of various portions of a cell for determining an expected call activity level for at least one portion of the cell. One example includes using the least active portion of the cell as the portion of interest. Previously observed activity levels provide information to automatically determine an expected relationship between the activity levels of the portions of the cell. Disclosed examples include determining whether a deviation between the actual call activity level and the expected call activity level is statistically significant enough to indicate a fault condition with at least the portion of the cell, which is of interest.

Method Of Monitoring Wireless Network Performance

US Patent:
2006006, Mar 23, 2006
Filed:
Sep 21, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/946255
Inventors:
Benjamin Cheung - Lake Hiawatha NJ, US
Stacy Fishkin - Mahwah NJ, US
Gopal Kumar - Morristown NJ, US
Sudarshan Rao - Highland Park NJ, US
International Classification:
H04Q 7/20
US Classification:
455423000, 455422100
Abstract:
A wireless communication system () includes a monitoring module () that is capable of detecting at least one type of fault scenario in the system. In a disclosed example, sleeping cells (-) are detected by determining a deviation between actual cell performance and an expected cell performance. The disclosed examples include automatically determining the expected cell performance and automatically determining any deviation between the actual cell performance and the expected cell performance. Statistical analysis provides an indication whether a determined deviation is indicative of a fault condition.

Calibrating Radiofrequency Paths Of A Phased-Array Antenna

US Patent:
2009029, Nov 26, 2009
Filed:
May 21, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/124493
Inventors:
Sudarshan A. RAO - Highland Park NJ, US
Kam Hung WU - Randolph NJ, US
Yifei YUAN - Livingston NJ, US
International Classification:
H04J 3/00
US Classification:
370280
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of calibrating base station comprising a plurality of antennas and operating in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) and Time Division Duplex (TDD) mode. One embodiment of the method includes a method of calibrating a base station comprising a plurality of antennas for beamsteering forward link traffic data to a target mobile in a TDD wireless communication system. Each antenna is connected to a corresponding radio via a transmit/receive switch that is configured to switch between a receive path and a transmit path. The method includes transmitting a first signal from a first radio via a first cross-over cable coupled to the first radio and a second radio such that the first signal is received by the second radio. The method also includes transmitting a second signal from the second radio via a second cross-over cable coupled between the first and second radios such that the second signal is received by the first radio. The method further includes determining, based on at least one of the first or second signals, a relative weight that can be applied to traffic signals transmitted from the second radio.
