Abstract:
A wireless communication network () utilizes a hard handoff procedure for switching between cells serving a mobile station (). In a disclosed example, the existing link between the mobile station () and a serving base station () is not released until a new link between a target base station () and a mobile station () is established. At the same time, however, the mobile station maintains only one base station or link within its active set at all times. The disclosed example is useful for dedicated channel and shared channel communications in CDMA systems, for example.

Abstract:
A method for controlling a wireless communications system is provided. A plurality of substantially identical base stations, each capable of being operated as both a primary agent and a secondary agent are deployed. The secondary agent is capable of communicating with a mobile device and the primary agent is capable of communicating with a network. A network active set associated with a mobile device is formed from a plurality of the base stations. One of the base stations in the network active set is selected to operate as the primary agent, and it communicates to the other base stations that the selected base station is operating as the primary agent. Thus, communications between the network and the mobile device are routed through the primary agent and the selected secondary agent.

Pantelis Monogioudis - Randolph NJ, US
Shirish Nagaraj - Cedar Knolls NJ, US
Subramanian Vasudevan - Morristown NJ, US
Harish Viswanathan - Morristown NJ, US

Abstract:
A closed loop power control based on receiving a continuous quality feedback is described. A main reverse link (RL) pilot is controlled by the quality feedback of a substantially continuous delay sensitive traffic stream, such as Voice-over-IP (VoIP), when such a stream is enabled. When such a stream is not enabled, the quality of a continuous RL overhead channel is used to control the pilot power. At the same time, the Traffic-to-Pilot Ratios (TPR) of contemporaneously transmitted delay sensitive data streams are independently adjusted based on a quality feedback associated with each such data stream.

Suman Das - Scotch Plains NJ, US
Pantelis Monogioudis - Randolph NJ, US
Harish Viswanathan - Morristown NJ, US
Assignee:
Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
H04B 7/216
US Classification:

10/941050
Inventors:
Suman Das - Scotch Plains NJ, US
Thierry E. Klein - Fanwood NJ, US
Kin K. Leung - London, GB
Sayandev Mukherjee - Plainsboro NJ, US
George E. Rittenhouse - Holmdel NJ, US
Louis Gwyn Samuel - Sindon, GB

The method comprises selecting a plurality of base stations, where at least a portion of the base stations are adapted to operate as a secondary agent, and wherein the secondary agent is capable of communicating with a mobile device. Substantially similar data is then delivered to a plurality of the secondary agents, and a first one of the secondary agents is selected as a first serving secondary agent to communicate with the mobile device. The first serving secondary agent transfers the data to the mobile device during the communications session.

Interference-Reducing Method Of Forward Link Scheduling For Wireless Networks

US Patent:
7738422, Jun 15, 2010
Filed:
Aug 23, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/210038
Inventors:
Suman Das - Scotch Plains NJ, US
Harish Viswanathan - Morristown NJ, US
Assignee:
Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
H04W 4/00
US Classification:
370330, 370281, 370329, 370344, 370478, 370319
Abstract:
A method of scheduling and sub-channelization is provided for a wireless network such as an OFDMA network. Distributed coordination is applied across sectors, such neighboring sectors will tend to schedule cell-edge users at the same time, while sub-channelizing to different portions of the full frequency band available for forward link transmissions. This tendency is achieved by dividing each sector's users into user classes which depend upon forward link channel quality. Each user class is assigned a different set of priorities for use of available timeslots and subcarriers.
