Abstract:
An optical connection closure has at least one connector port located within an external wall of the closure for receiving a connectorized optical fiber of a distribution cable on the inside of the closure and a pre-connectorized fiber optic drop cable on the outside of the closure. The closure includes a base, a cover affixed to the base and movable between a closed position and an opened position, and an end wall that defines at least a portion of at least one cable opening for receiving the distribution cable in a butt-type or a through-type closure configuration. The base and the cover define an interior cavity that optionally contains a splice tray for interconnecting the optical fiber of the distribution cable with a pigtail to create the connectorized optical fiber. Abstract:
An environmentally sealed closure, such as a terminal for terminated ends of fiber optic cables, includes a housing having a wall defining an interior volume. A floating sealing assembly is provided including a first plate, a seal member and a second plate arranged in a stack within the interior volume. The seal member has an outer sealing edge for contacting the wall of the housing, which may be straight and/or chamfered. Fiber optic cables extend through the sealing assembly so that the terminated ends are within the splice area. The floating sealing assembly is compressed so as to place the outer sealing edge of the seal member in sealing contact with the wall of the housing. When a pressure differential exists between the splice area and the outside of the housing only one of the first or second plates moves along the longitudinal axis to further compress the seal member and increase sealing between the outer sealing edge and the housing wall.

Fiber Optic Drop Terminal Mounting Plate

US Patent:
7664360, Feb 16, 2010
Filed:
Apr 17, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/788269
Inventors:
Terry Dean Cox - Keller TX, US
Diana Rodriguez - Alvarado TX, US
Assignee:
Corning Cable Systems LLC - Hickory NC
International Classification:
G02B 6/00
US Classification:
385135, 385134
Abstract:
There is provided fiber drop terminal (“FDT”) assemblies for providing selective connections between optical fibers of distribution cables and optical fibers of drop cables, such as in multiple dwelling units. The FDT assemblies include a mounting plate that enables the FDT to be conveniently and securely mounted to a generally vertical surface, such as a wall. The mounting plate is structured such that the base of the FDT must be removed before the mounting plate can be removed, and the cover of the FDT is structured that neither the base nor the mounting plate can be removed without first removing the cover. The cover may be selectively locked to the base and/or mounting plate with a locking fastener; therefore, only technicians able to remove the locking fastener may remove the cover, base, and/or mounting plate of the FDT assembly.

Grommet And Plate Assembly For Sealing Fiber Optic Closures

US Patent:

Abstract:
There is provided grommet and plate assemblies for sealing fiber optic closures into which and/or out of which fiber optic cables are routed. The grommet of the assembly includes a central portion with an axial opening adapted to receive the fiber optic cable through a slit in the central portion. The grommet also includes an end cap portion on an axial end of the grommet, and the end cap portion includes a deformable outer lip that overhangs an outer surface of the central portion to provide axial retention of the grommet once it is inserted into an opening of the plate. The plate includes a plurality of openings into which grommets may be selectively inserted. The plate may be received within an opening of the fiber optic closure and includes a slot for receiving a protrusion within the opening of the fiber optic closure.

US Patent:
8155525, Apr 10, 2012
Filed:
May 15, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/466514
Inventors:
Terry D. Cox - Keller TX, US
Assignee:
Corning Cable Systems LLC - Hickory NC
International Classification:

In one embodiment, an interconnect unit is coupled between a head-end unit and one or more remote units. The interconnect unit includes a plurality of optical communication links each configured to carry RoF signals to and from a head-end unit to remote units. The RF electrical signals from the head-end unit are converted to RF optical signals and communicated over the optical communication links in the interconnect unit to the remote units. The remote units convert the optical signals to electrical signals and communicate the electrical signals to client devices. To provide power to the remote units, the interconnect unit electrically couples power from at least one power supply to a plurality of power branches. Each power branch is configured to supply power to a remote unit connected to the interconnect unit.
