Rotary-Handle Latch

US Patent:
8646819, Feb 11, 2014
Filed:
Oct 31, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/285323
Inventors:
Thai Do - Laguna Niguel CA, US
Chi Pan - Irvine CA, US
Assignee:
Alcoa Inc. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
E05C 3/14
US Classification:
292228, 2923363, 292DIG 49
Abstract:
A latch includes a base, a drive shaft and cam, and a handle attached pivotally to the drive shaft. The handle is moveable between a closed position, a pop-up position, and an open position. A slide plate is attached slidably to the base and engaged with the cam. A swivel arm is attached pivotally to the base and the slide plate. A bolt assembly is attached to the swivel arm, and a plunger is mounted within the base. In its closed position, the handle engages the plunger to engage a switch and the bolt assembly engages a structure. In the handle's pop-up position, the plunger moves to a retracted position and disengages the switch. When the handle is moved to the open position, the drive shaft and cam are rotated so that the slide plate slides and the swivel arm pivots to swing the bolt assembly away from the structure.

Side-Driven Action Pin Latch

US Patent:
2011019, Aug 11, 2011
Filed:
Feb 8, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/023081
Inventors:
THAI DO - Laguna Niguel CA, US
International Classification:
E05C 5/04
E05C 5/02
US Classification:
292 6, 292 68
Abstract:
A pin latch including a mounting block having a longitudinal axis, a pin slidably retained within the mounting block and having a pivot-pin, and a sliding plate slidably retained within the mounting block, the plate having a slot and a longitudinal axis extending from first and second ends thereof and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the mounting block. The pivot-pin engages the slot of the plate such that movement of the sliding plate along its longitudinal axis induces movement of the pin in a direction of the longitudinal axis of the mounting block. A plurality of pin latches are connected in series by links in a side-by-side fashion or around corners. One link emanating from an actuator is connected to one of the plates that the actuator can actuate the pins of all the pin latches simultaneously.

Latch With Adjustable Handle

US Patent:
2011022, Sep 22, 2011
Filed:
Mar 9, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/043717
Inventors:
THAI DO - Laguna Niguel CA, US
International Classification:
E05C 19/12
E05B 1/00
US Classification:
292105, 2923363
Abstract:
A latch includes a body having first end and a second end, a trigger-catch-pin, and a pin adjustment mechanism for adjusting the position of the trigger-catch-pin within the body. The latch includes a handle having a first end and a second end, an exterior surface, and a trigger. The second end of the handle is attached pivotally to the body such that the handle is moveable between a closed position, in which the trigger of the handle is releasably engaged with the trigger-catch-pin, and an open position, in which the trigger of the handle is disengaged from the trigger-catch-pin. The pin adjustment mechanism is adapted to adjust the position of the trigger-catch-pin within the body and, in turn, the position of the first end of the handle relative to the body, so that the exterior surface of the handle may be positioned flush with an exterior surface of an external structure.

Pin Latch Having An Intermediate Position

US Patent:
2012023, Sep 20, 2012
Filed:
Mar 9, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/416080
Inventors:
THAI DO - Laguna Niguel CA, US
International Classification:
E05C 1/10
US Classification:
292150
Abstract:
A pin latch includes a housing, a handle attached to the housing, a shear pin attached to the handle, and a finger member attached to the handle and the shear pin. The handle may be set in an intermediate position between open and closed positions. Trigger pins slidably engage slots formed within the finger member until they engage stops to retain the handle in its intermediate position. To further retract the shear pin and move the handle towards the open position, the finger member is lifted and the trigger pins disengage the stops. Alternately, the latch includes a button mechanism having a cross-pin that engages a stop formed by a slot within the shear pin to maintain the handle in its intermediate position. To further retract the shear pin and rotate the handle, the button mechanism is depressed to disengage the cross-pin from the slot of the shear pin.

Latch Assembly Including Sensor

US Patent:
6325428, Dec 4, 2001
Filed:
Nov 10, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/437880
Inventors:
Thai Thanh Do - Laguna Niguel CA
Assignee:
Hartwell Corporation - Placentia CA
International Classification:
E05C 500
US Classification:
292113
Abstract:
Disclosed is a latch assembly including sensor for releasably engaging an aircraft panel to a keeper. The latch assembly includes a latch housing and a latch mounted in the latch housing. The latch includes a hook rotatably mounted to the latch housing, and a linkage, moveable into and out of a locked position, rotatably mounted to the latch housing and the hook. The latch also includes a sensor, moveable between a blocking and unblocking position, mounted to the hook. In the blocking position, the sensor prevents the linkage from moving to its locked position and the latch assembly from closing. In the unblocking position, the sensor is moved away from the linkage allowing the linkage to move to its locked position and the latch assembly to close.

Pressure Relief Latch

US Patent:
2020020, Jul 2, 2020
Filed:
Feb 21, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/797306
Inventors:
- Pittsburgh PA, US
Thai Do - Laguna Niguel CA, US
International Classification:
E05C 19/02
B64D 29/06
E05B 15/04
E05B 51/02
Abstract:
A latch including a housing having side members each having an elongated slot, a bolt mounted rotatably to the housing and positioned between the side members of the housing, a trigger mounted rotatably to the housing, and a pin and roller positioned slidably within the elongated slots of the side members of the housing. The bolt is moveable between a first, closed position and a second open position. The trigger is moveable between a first position, in which the pin and roller are engaged with the bolt when the bolt is in its first position, and a second position, in which the pin and roller are disengaged from the bolt. The latch can be opened automatically when a defined load is provided on the bolt, or manually by depressing the trigger to disengage the pin and roller from the bolt.

Torque Limiter Wedges

US Patent:
2018032, Nov 8, 2018
Filed:
May 1, 2018
Appl. No.:
15/968395
Inventors:
- Pittsburgh PA, US
Thai Do - Laguna Niguel CA, US
Assignee:
Arconic Inc. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
F16B 2/14
H05K 7/14
Abstract:
A device includes a body, a front wedge, a body wedge, a ratchet, an internal thread, a first end, a second end, and a longitudinal axis. The front wedge is positioned at the first end of the body. The body wedge has a first face and a second face and is positioned adjacent the front wedge and adjacent the body. Motion of the front wedge toward the second end of the body causes motion of the body wedge away from the body perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The ratchet is positioned within the holes of the body the front wedge. Motion of the ratchet toward the second end of the body causes motion of the front wedge toward the second end of the body. Rotation of the ratchet about the longitudinal axis in a first direction causes the ratchet to move toward the second end of the body.
