Abstract:
A load indicator for use with a railway car hand brake that is connected to a railway car brake rigging comprising a housing, a plurality of levers pivotally mounted in the housing, each of the plurality of levers having a first end and an opposite second end, a plate coupled to each of the plurality of lever second ends, wherein the plate is moveable with respect to the housing, and a plurality of springs each operatively coupled between a respective one of the plurality of lever first ends and the housing. At least one of the plurality of lever first ends is moveable between a first position in which tension exerted on the plate from the railway car hand brake is within a predetermined range, and a second position in which tension exerted on the load indicator from the railway car brake rigging is outside the predetermined range.

One-Way Check Valve

US Patent:
8522823, Sep 3, 2013
Filed:
Jul 29, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/846575
Inventors:
Robert Gayfer - Greenville SC, US
Mark Michel - Greer SC, US
Thomas S. Head - Greenville SC, US
Assignee:
Ellcon National, Inc. - Greenville SC
International Classification:
F16K 15/14
US Classification:
137846, 137843, 303 81
Abstract:
A railway car control valve comprises a brake pipe port, an auxiliary reservoir port, a main piston configured to compare air pressures at the brake pipe port and the auxiliary reservoir port, and a one-way check valve positioned intermediate the brake pipe port and the auxiliary reservoir port. The one way check valve comprises a body having a bore extending from its first end to its second end, an elongated insert configured to reduce the rate of air flow through the body, and a sleeve received on the insert's outer surface. The insert is received in the body bore. One of the insert and the sleeve is configured to move between a first position and a second position that either allows air to flow or prevents air from flowing, respectively.

Chain Locator

US Patent:
2010005, Mar 11, 2010
Filed:
May 22, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/470979
Inventors:
Mark Michel - Greer SC, US
Thomas Stuart Head - Greenville SC, US
International Classification:
F16D 66/00
US Classification:
188 111E
Abstract:
A brake mechanism having a chain locator comprises a chain coupled between a braking mechanism and a railway car brake system, a marker is releasably secured to the chain, and a sensor is coupled to the railway car proximate the chain for detecting the state of the railway car brake system. The chain is moveable between a first position in which the marker is not sensed by the sensor, and a second position in which the sensor detects the marker.

Wheel Slip Protection System

US Patent:
2011011, May 19, 2011
Filed:
Nov 13, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/618285
Inventors:
Thomas S. Head - Greenville SC, US
James D. Wasness - Inman SC, US
International Classification:
B60T 8/58
US Classification:
303132
Abstract:
An anti-locking brake module comprises a housing having a first port coupled to a brake pipe, a second output port coupled to a brake cylinder, and a third port coupled to atmosphere. A blocking valve is in fluid communication with the first port and a vent valve is in fluid communication with the blocking valve, the second port and the third port. At least one sensor is coupled to an axle on the railcar. A microprocessor coupled to the blocking valve, the vent valve and the at least one sensor is configured to calculate one of a wheel speed of the railcar axle and a deceleration rate of the railcar axle based on signals received from the at least one sensor, and compare the calculated one of the wheel speed of the railcar axle and the deceleration rate of the railcar axle with a reference value. In response to the comparison, the blocking valve and the vent valve are activated to vent brake cylinder air pressure out of the third port. A power supply is operatively coupled to the microprocessor.

Centralized Antenna Interface For Wireless Networks

US Patent:
2012003, Feb 16, 2012
Filed:
Aug 13, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/855846
Inventors:
Zhixi Li - Vienna VA, US
Thomas Williston Head - Chantilly VA, US
Aiman Shabsigh - McLean VA, US
Peter Frederick Krug - Kanata, CA
Richard Cuthill - Reston VA, US
International Classification:
H01Q 3/00
US Classification:
342372, 342374
Abstract:
An antenna interface system, device, method and program allow access to a centralized antenna interface by establishing connection to a server via a first network connection, wherein the server includes a user interface configured to establish a communication connection between the antenna interface system and the user of the access device. The server also includes one or more antenna control programs which when executed provide the command signals, and a second network connection establishes a communication connection between the server and converters that transmit the command signals from the server to the antennas. Each converter is located in the vicinity of one or more antennas and the antennas are connected to the converters so as to receive the command signals. The command signals are used for making adjustments to and gathering information for antenna parameters of the antennas.

Beam-Former Hub

US Patent:
2012011, May 10, 2012
Filed:
Nov 9, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/942267
Inventors:
Thomas Williston Head - Chantilly VA, US
Chintan Patel - Sterling VA, US
Richard Cuthill - Reston VA, US
International Classification:
H04W 24/00
US Classification:
370252
Abstract:
A method, program, system and apparatus for implementing programmable radio patterns (i.e. beam-forming) in a wireless communication network are discussed. Beam-forming is performed by weighting data samples to compensate for phase variation and frequency variation introduced by a signal path. The phase variation and frequency variation introduced by a signal path is estimated by correlating stored data and calibration data. The phase variation and frequency variation are compensated for by applying phase and frequency corrections, or weights, to the data so as to equalize the phase variation and t frequency variation of the data.
